I'm typing this on a freshly downloaded Tapatalk app. It sucks. Ads everywhere, and half the time it looks like I'm browsing crap on Pinterest.

Android app is even more dead now than before.... Won't load anything after splash screen.... One last time, what would it take monetarily and programming effort-wise to get the dedicated android app working again?

We would need the developers at vbulletin to code a mobile app for vB4 or upgrade to vB5... And I don't even think there is an app it's just a refined mobile experience. The old app is insecure. It only works over http. That's probably why it's broke since I forced https.

I'll have to try and find a way to remove the https for the app. That should restore the function you had previously.

That would be awesome Kevlar, even with limited usability, the app is extremely easy to keep track of followed threads with, and to manage and view headers of your favorite forums too.

It should work now... if it does, tell your friends. If it doesn't, tell me.
Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by hundreds of engineers that get paid thousands of dollars for something you bought at Pep Boys because your buddy who doesn't have a job told you it was 'better'?!?

The Hammer strikes again: the forum app is working! Thanks so much for taking the time to reconfigure the http/https to get basic functionality back on the app!

Here is what we would have to do to get the new mobile version running again... upgrade to vb5 (which looks like this -- https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/ ) and then purchase the mobile app upgrade. Considering how the vB community has pretty much decided that vB5 is not 'great' since they vB and xenForo split, I have been hesitant to pull the trigger until I know it is great and we can support it the way the community wants to be supported.

Yea, not a huge fan of the Material Design with regard to wasted space and extra padding (i.e. more scrolling physically and visually)... IMHO, the bimmerforums.com app as it is, now is just about perfect with regard to readability, use of space, general functionality etc.

So if you were to decide to go VB5 + mobile app upgrade ($), it's looking like it's going to cost your time to port to VB5, plus the cost of the mobile integration package ($359?) https://www.vbulletin.com/purchases/, plus your time for troubleshooting and tweaking.

If and when you decide to go one way or the other, I'm willing to pitch in monetarily, and I'd be willing to setup a go-fund-me or donations thread as well. I'm a part-time external software manager at my company, but unfortunately don't have any useful coding abilities (sadly), otherwise I'd be willing to help out there too. I used to run an old vBulletin forum for another hobby I had, but that was 6-7 years ago now; well before Android/iOS app integration was commonplace.

Bottom line, let me know if I can help-

    Thanks.

It's really the time to customize and tweak. vB3 and vB4 out of the box were bland and boring and the community did not like them... so we have a variety of plugins that are put into place to make it more 'friendly'. The hardest part after the upgrade is chasing down (hoping) that those same plugins exist for vB5. Going from vB3 to vB4 we lost about 40% of our add-ons because they just did not exist. Then the vB developers split and made xenForo which was supposed to be a bigger/badder version of vB but it never really took off. (Instead of one really strong community, you had two really weak ones). vB5 didn't get the love it needed and xF didn't get the vast expanse it deserved.

Many communities are still running vB3 :o
