So 3 of the 4 tail lights (LED) on my X3 are not working. I determined the small module inside the light has failed and have searched for replacement modules but could not find "just" the module. I can find the whole light with a replacement cost of $303 for the outside lights and $211 for the inside lights but it seems excessive to have to spend that much just to fix a simple problem.
I have found "How To" articles on repairing the faulty modules but it was only a short term fix for me.
Has anyone found an OEM module or an aftermarket substitute so I don't have spend $820 just to fix my tail lights?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I would check for faults in the frm module,,if so reset it
I'm not sure what or where the frm module is or what it does, but I'd try anything at this point.

Look for post #60 by smovva and you can fix it yourself. I just fixed two of mine for less than $10. Bought two more units for when the other two burn out.
Current: 2011 X3 35i M-Sport, Deep Sea Blue Metallic, Oyster Napa interior, Afe intake, RaceChip Ultimate.
Past: 1998 M3 sedan, Cosmos Schwartz Metallic, Black interior, Euro 6-speed, AA Stage II TwinScrew supercharger, and a bunch of other mods.
Be careful. I bought a knock off replacement board and it interfered with the key fob and it would not allow me to start the car without putting the RFID chip next to the steering wheel. Taking to replacement board out allowed it to work again.
Before you try anything, clean the connections and tighten the fitting. Dealer replace the first one in warranty but the second went out after CPO warranty expired. Dealer wanted over $300 for replacement.... no thank you. popped off the back took the entire light assembly out and cleaned and tightened the connections. tested with an RC car battery and, Voila! saved myself a couple hundred bucks.
Seems pretty common. The passenger side tail LED died the day after we bought it. Dealer replaced it no problem. After 15k the driver side went out. I ordered two of the meanwell LDD-500HW LED drivers and followed this: https://www.ledsupply.com/blog/commo...ail-light-fix/ It worked perfectly. If the other side dies in the future I will just replace it with the aftermarket driver. it's better built. I believe the OEM Valeo board can't take the heat. I'm in S. California a well.
