2001 740i - speaker hum/distoration

I have a 2001 740i; radio, amp, speakers are factory.

I developed a hum coming out of right, rear speaker.

Someone suggested i unplug amp and turn key to on position 1x - 2x a few times.

I don't know if the idea is it resets something?

Any thoughts?

Is the hum there whenever the audio system is on, or does the engine have to be on to produce the hum? Are there any recent mods to the car’s electrical/electronix systems?

This particular hum comes on only when radio is turned on.

Now immediatley prior to that i had a much louder hum/distortion coming from both rear speakers which came on when the car was started -- the radio did not need to be on. This went on for a week or so then just stopped.

I thought i was out of the woods until i turned on radio to the hum i have now only occurs w/ radio on. This hum has been w/ me for approx. 2 months.
