I'm looking into some wheels, I'm pretty sure they will work but can anyone confirm? They will be on the rear of a 1993 E36 325IS
Wheel: 17×9.5 with a 20 offset
Tire: 275/40R17

That's awfully wide for an E36, and with a low offset. On my E36 M3 which should have basically the same wheel well dimensions, I run a 17x9 ET42 with a 245/40-17 in the rear. I could run a 255/40-17 on that with some fender rolling. Anything wider than 255 and I'd have to cut the fenders or put a wide body kit on.
Your wheels are 22mm lower offset, so they stick out that much closer to the fenders. I doubt anything wider than a 225/45-17 would fit on that wheel due to the decreased clearance to the fender. And a 225 on a 9.5 inch wheel will be very stretched.
On E36's generally you want very high offset wheels in back because there's hardly any fender flare to fit very wide tires. High offset also works in front with small spacers, or you can run lower offset in front with no spacers.

Unfortunately those wheels will be far too wide to fit a stock-body E36. If you're running fender flares or some type of widebody, they'll fit great. Otherwise, you'll want to stick to an offset in the ≈40mm range for a 9.5" wide wheel, and even then, you'll still need to roll the rear fenders.
