    Hubcentric rings for E36 help

    Hi,

    Wheel noob here, I see a lot of wheels for sale that are 5x114.3 and would like to know if I can make them fit? If so, how big/thick of a ring would I need and where could I find them?

    One example is 17x9 squared with an Et of +29. 5x114.3

    Another set is 18x10.5 squared. Et +35 front and +10 rear 5x114.3

    Next is 17x9 Et +35 squares 5x114.3

    5x112 17x8.5f and 17x9.5r, waiting on offsets

    Ive also found 17s from a corvette but haven’t gotten a reply for wheel width/et.


    Thanks for the help in advanced, I’m looking for CCW Classics so if you have any in E36 M3 figment, lmk!

    It isn't the centering rings that you need, but adapters from 114.3 to 120. Spacer's thickness (and they will be thick!) coupled with low # offsets you list will make it very tough to fit/look right - your wheels will be poking way out. Stock offset is 46mm, the lower the number the further out wheels stick out. So say you start with offset 29mm wheel, than you add 1.2" (31.75mm) spacer, that lands you in -2.75mm offset territory = your wheels are far past your fenders. So stick to finding your wheels in correct bolt pattern and offset.

    Yeah you're gonna want an offset around 40, give or take. The higher the better, at least in the rear. Stock wheels for the M3 are 17x7.5 ET41 front and 17x8.5 ET41 rear. Any offset lower than that in the rear means you have to mess with your fenders or run skinnier tires. In the front a lower offset will work because you have lots of room to the fender and you actually need a small spacer a lot of times to clear the strut anyways.

    Personally, I'd suggest just buying wheels made for BMW fitment and avoiding the hassle. There's plenty of good ones to choose from.

    Both of the above posters are correct. There are a lot of cool non-BMW-fitment wheels out there and it's tempting to try and make them all fit, but in the end it ends up costing more and results in a heavier, more expensive setup that doesn't let you run the widest possible tire once you factor in the cost of custom hubcentric adapters.

    For an E36 track fitment, we recommend a square setup so you can rotate your tires to get as many runs as possible. The sizes you'll want to look for are:

    Option 1 - Front/Rear: 18x8.5" ET38 with 235/40-18 tires - direct fit with no spacers required
    Option 2 - Front/Rear: 18x9" ET30 with 245/35-18 tires - more aggressive fitment, rear fender roll required
    Option 3 - Front/Rear: 18x9.5" ET35 with 255/35-18 tires - most aggressive fitment, 5mm spacer required up front to clear suspension, rear fender roll required

    You'll also want to check the center bore of the wheel, all BMW cars except the E30 and E39 use a 72.56mm diameter. If your wheels have a larger center bore, you'll need a hubcentric ring to fill in the gap. If your wheels have a smaller center bore, I wouldn't bother, you'll need custom hubcentric spacers to make the wheels fit without vibrating, which will likely make the wheel stick out too far.

    I agree, it is not worth trying to make something work when there are a lot of wheels that just fit.
