    Newbie here...

Hello Y'all... I'm Brent and I've been on this forum a long time ago, but forgot my username and password... But anyways, I just picked up a 98 E36 with a motor issue... Pretty sure it either broke the timing chain, or blew a head gasket.

It sounds like there's no compression, which I will do a compression test in the next few days. It only has like 130k on the clock and looks like a decent car, so who knows what it could be.

Any pointers I should be looking at / for? Thank you Brent

P.S. I will also be doing a manual trans swap here soon too.

    Welcome back Brent!

Well if it's a 5spd and there's no compression across the board then it may have been money shifted, bad trans mounts and pulled wrong gear, would need a new head. Also very common is an overheat which will cause the head to warp a bit and also potentially crack, cylinders 4,5,6 would be low. Read the old "overheated" threads.
