I am having a no crank/start issue with my 2003 x5 e53. When I read they key data it shows that all keys are free and unused. See attached picture. It should be displaying a value for one of the key locations should it not?
I replaced the starter motor and after the battery being disconnected for the weekend it wont crank unless I bypass the EWS.
Thanks in advance.
Looks like your EWS module is corrupted or wiped.
This can happen to certain types if someone has tried reading it with an AK90 tool when it is still in the car.

I have ordered an AK90 once I get it Will I be able to reprogram the EWS to my existing key then resync it to the DME with INPA? As far as I have read this maybe my fix.
You would need the original EWS read of the car... which may be lost if enda320 is right. I agree, your EWS looks wiped/corrupt.
You may be able to rebuild a file (using another car's file) but only for your current available keys and a key reader.

Got my keys and key programmer today. Thankfully the EWS was not corrupted. The key I had was dead. I read the EWS and programmed 2 keys all is good now.
