How can one perform recall software updates?

What program is used for software update? For example what is needed to perform voluntary recall 08E-A03 for cats below threshold on a vehicle without taking it to the dealer? Can it be done with ISTA-P? Thanks in advance.

I assume this is on the M3?

For any E chassis, WinKFP is safer and better to use. ISTA-P and most K+DCAN cables (+newbie user) is a recipe for disaster.

    Thanks 328,
Yes this is for E46 M3. I have serial OBD and K+DCAN cables I use with INPA, DIS, ISTA-D for diagnostics and running tests, ISTA-P for coding new components (like new steering angle sensor). I believe I have NCS 4.5.3 and WinKFP 5.1.0 that I can install.
My next question is, where can I find the file to update for 08E-A03, or how do I know if I have the right files for this update?

RealOEM says that ZB 7842343 is the latest for your car.
BUT ZB 7842973 was released in March of 2009, and is the newest for MSS54 non HP DME, for manual M3.

Make sure your WinKFP configuration has "Fast Baudrate" unchecked (else it will brick your car model DME, specific to your car), and that UIF settings are checked.

Its actually best to leave UIF unchecked unless you need to change the UIF info(vin, etc). That way it doesnt plug up your programming count.

There are e46 Daten files floating around as recent as 2014. Assuming the recall was issued before then.
    Current:

    - 09 335i MSport, FBO.
    - 98 Euro M3, Estoril Blue

UIF slots are easily cleared, but it's a valid point. I like to see flash versions when diagnosing and tuning.

I checked 2017 daten and nothing has been updated since 2009.

08E-A03 was issued in 2009 and I don't remember any SBs for manual transmission M3 DME after that. Now I have to find out if I have the right daten files. Thanks for the responses.

    328,
According to realoem, 12147842343 is for 2008 and up programmed DME. I can't find 7842973 in realoem, how did you know it was released in March 2009? Do you have an other source besides realoem?
    Thanks
