My exhaust flange is broken and calling around, most people won't do it or some that do want at least £100
a new exhaust is £130 from uk supplier which I could then pass on to someone to decat ( further £20-30)?
on other side of the coin, stainless steel is 400+ on ebay which I assume are unbranded .
Would you notice a performance difference with stainless steel compared to mild steel ?
where would you call around to find welders and people who deal with this kind of thing ?
As soon as I say welding , the guy thinks you need to weld a hole and as it is, the UK garages replace rather than repair so straight answer is no.
car is almost complete but I have a broken flange as per the picture which is stopping my next drift day .
I don't think it will be a big issue apart from burning the gasket
thanks
I broke one of those from being dumb and just welded it with an arc welder and I don't know how to weld. It seemed to work fine, it's not a pretty well though lol

cool
i took the car apart almost 2 years ago and putting back together now
I don't think you need to tighten the bolt so much that both flanges stick to each other, there meant to be a space between them right ?
do you have any pics?
Stainless is harder to weld than mild steel. It doesnt rust though so it lasts much longer. I don't think those flanges are replaceable though, because the end of the pipe is flared. Youll either have to weld it, or replace the entire muffler.
Those flanges should be available. Plus, it looks like the broken flange is on the straight pipe, not the flared side.

Possibly the Flange #10, plus either #13 or 14 gasket ring??
I don't have a 3 series, but the e34 uses similar flanges. If in fact the broken one is on a straight pipe, the straight pipe goes into the other pipe with the gasket ring in between the flanges. The flange should have the relief for the gasket ring.
Just guessing here!!
This is the right thing for it: a Nickson split flange.

I had the same problem with my M3 and this thing worked perfectly. No welding, has been perfect ever since. $25, may be even less in the UK.

I ended up welding it

Out of interest what is split flange, is it so you can bypass the flare and install it at the back of it? I then suppose you need two to match the holes on both side providing it is a correct bore
I also decided to hollow my cat as my cheap decat
And then welded the lid back in. I didn't do a pipe instead of the cat lid due to not having a pipe bender and wanting car ready for track days

Do you think a gutted cat will sound horrible?
My welding is also not great so there might be few holes in it
Looks like I was wrong anyway, the flared pipe is on the part you welded.
The split flange separates so you you can install it without undoing the pipes. I've used those in the past as well.
A flange is the flare on the pipe, that broken bit is part of the clamp.
Common problem on E46 M3 Back boxes also.
Have a look on ebay if the ones form i6automotive are same diameter
