2001 x5 automatic shifter problem *Please Help i have work in 11 hours*

    Hi all

So I just got a 2001 x5 with a lot of work that needs to be done on it. Chief of which is the shifter. It is really stiff moving between park reverse and neutral and when i go to select drive it-

    1. wont go into drive
    2. wont notch into the drive slot like it does for reverse neutral and park
    3. when pulled back ti doesnt go straight back. rather it moves over to the left into the DS position (but doesnt go into DS either)

It feels like it is hitting something when moving the shfter back toward the drive position.

I removed the shift boot and can not see any obstructions.

    Please please please help.

Look under the vehicle and check the shift cable on the passenger side of the transmission. Check for damage to the cable or see if the cable is even adjusted right. Not to criticize but an E53 that needs " a lot of work" probably not the best vehicle to depend on as a daily driver. Good luck
