Seems like standard coil spring replacements are hard to find. Lowering or performance springs and heavy duty spring but not OEM. Anyone have an alternate maker or model that works? Had a Moog spring on my SHO that we needed to cut down a couple of coils.
Working on the 325 reminds me how much I LOVED my old Jeep Wrangler. A bus ate it.
I think any new springs are going to be a crap shoot. Figure that after 20 yrs the springs are maybe sagging a bit but then if you look at a factory BMW spring on the front, What the hell were they thinking. You can use the gap in the wheel and well to store a family of six. Looks horrible. I still cringe every time I look at my stock spring cars.
Well that got me thinking that a lowered aftermarket set, about 1.5 inches, may not be lower than how my old ones sit. Anyone know what normal stock gap between tire and fender should be?
According to Bentley my 170k mile springs are fine. Maybe 1/8 inch down. Not enough to spend the money to replace them. Have KYB struts/shocks coming under their lifetime warranty. Will be doing the mounts, spring insulators and bumper pads too. Dumb to assume they were done without measuring them.
If you're looking for an OE replacement, take a look at the link below to the Bilstein ones. Please let us know if you have any questions!
