    check engine light

I just purchased a 2014 535d xdrive a couple months ago. It has around 40k miles on it now. I just started getting a cel for fzd function center roof. My research to this point is the sun roof switch control. The thing is it works fine. Everything is working to my knowledge. Anyone else get this cel or know anything about it. I have a scanner and reset it and the cel came back on a day later.

The FZD will not turn on your check engine light. You have something else going on.

Is the Foxwell NT510 not a reliable scanner? That's the only thing that comes up as wrong.

BMW ISTA/D is what all F Chassis car owners should have if you're interested in working on or diagnosing issues with your own car. Pocket scanners like that Foxwell NT510 are kids toys.

Thanks for the info but before I send back the Foxwell how about some more info on what your talking about. I just did a search on it and found prices ranging from thousands of dollars to 50 bucks for a cable on ebay. I assume I need a connector cable and then software. I'm not really interested in major diagnosing I just want the ability to find out why cel is on.

The perfect tool for your case would be Carista - it's a mobile app and Bluetooth adapter that supports full BMW-specific diagnostics for all ECUs in the car. You're not dealing with a laptop, with pirated software, with cables, etc. The hardware adapter for Carista costs under $40 and the software is $39.99/year (with a 1-month free trial) or $9.99 for a 1-week pass. Very reasonable in my opinion. All F-models are supported for diagnostics.
