Hey guys. Are there any smaller housings available for the S300sxe in the states? I got the T4 0,81 open one and maybe there is such thing like a 0,7 BEP or so? Could not find anything via google tho.
Thanks

Hello,good work on that build.
Just a question, what are those wheels??? Dimensions??
Those are 7,5 x 17 ET35 GTP020 fake Le Mans.

133mm rods for ~8.8:1 CR with B30 crank and B30 pistons in an M50 block. Seemed to be the most reasonable upgrade, instead of milling ( weakening) the pistons. I hope thats good for realiable +600 wheel with a M50B30 and 240/240 cams

Yesterday i put the car on a scale to weigh it... 1163kg with me in it (85kg), full tank (38 Liter) and stock steel hood. Considering that i got 17 in wheels because of 316mm rotors up front with 4 pot brembos and 280mm single pots in the rear, thats pretty good. also got a full roll cage in it. I really made everything lightweight, but there is not so much i can do anymore to keep it somewhat daily drivable. i got a fiberglass hood, saving 25kg and could get a trunk lid as well, but that stuff is just meeeh on a daily. Car weights 1050 with fiberglass hood and no driver in it.
weight distribution is not so great with like 59% on the front / 41% on the back, but i think thats the price to pay if going M50 in an E21. Should have gotten a m42 maybe.

And my turbo started leaking oil a few weeks ago, never left the shop tho, just ran it a bit to fine tune some things... so i better adress the issue (whatever it may be) now, before it gets worse.

True, but to be honest i picked the M50 for its strong iron block and got plenty of spare blocks and stuff here. And even with the nose heavy weight distribution now it should not be worst car on the road.

Time for an update. Spent very little time on the car for the last few months.
I found out my oil drain is not ideal. The AN10 fittings have bottle necks that reduce it to about 11mm ID, plus my drain to the pan is under oil level, at least when the engine is not running. So i work at another upgrade, this time complete overkill. drain to chain cover with 1/2 NPT fittings and a 22mm hose. smalles ID is about 19mm.
IMG_20200515_170954.jpg
meanwhile i wanted to remove a left over AC bracket on the engine, to make chain cover access easier... so i had to remove the trigger wheel, and belt. but there is no way to do that on an E21 bay with the radiator still in it. pretty much took the car apart for it.
After the radiator, belt and pan were removed and engine mounts were loose as well, i decided to upgrade the clutch now to be safe in the future.

i bought a used m30 fly + sachs 765 + 4 puck unsprung years ago for my E34 Turbo, that i never put in.

The Gearbox is still outside and i am really tempted to get a 7 Gear M4 DCT, but i am a complete noob with those modern gearboxes and the needed electronics. I have a very hard time gathering information as i dont know whats really needed to control those boxes, nor what i need to even mount it up. dont want to throw 2 grand at a gearbox i dont know shit about.
Any input and links to BMW 7-Gear DCT is welcome.

I tried to put the clutch in.
Setup is: M50 Crank + M50 Pilot bearing + M30 Single Mass Fly + M50 Flywheel Spacer + Sachs Performance 240mm disc
What side goes to the crank? Long splined side or flat hub? Nothing stamped on the clutch disc... (Pic 1, long splined side)
20200604_215234.jpg
I tried it with the long splined side towards engine and the splined hub seemed to hit the pilot bearing and the friction pads of the clutch has 3mm gap to the flywheel. (See pic 2)
20200604_215306.jpg
.. now, if i flip the clutch disc 180°, the long splined side now facing the gearbox, the flat side of the hub hits the bolt heads.. i could get that working when i remove the spacer between bolts and flywheel.. but not sure if thats the right direction to install it.
any help is welcome. thanks.

I gave Sachs a call, and they told me the clutch disc is for more than one application, hence its not labelled a direction. "8 of 10 cases, the long splined side goes to the gearbox" they said.
So i came up with a selfmade spacer to let the bolts go in further. 2,2mm spacer, instead of 6. Butchered an old automatic spacer of sorts, i had still here... the thin triangle shaped thing had the bolt pattern and a good thickness.

Angle grinder is life.
IMG_20200605_152249.jpg
Once that was sorted, gearbox went in easily. Clutch feel is very strange now, like 5cm of travel under pressure. it feels like the clutch cylinder or throw out fork bottoms out, well before the pedal in the car. i can adjust clutch pedal play only so far, that it has a little play, then 5cm of clutch travel, then it "bottoms out" mechanically, long before the clutch pedal itself reaches the carpet. is that common for such a setup?

All gearbox bolts are back in place. Quite the struggle.
IMG_20200607_193827.jpg
Now its time to upgrade the oil drain and move from pan to timing chain cover. Still waiting on a few tools to arrive. I tap it with a 3/4 pipe thread and put a fitting for 22mm ID hoses on. Should be plenty for every turbo setup i could ever dream of.

And i just upgraded to a rigid body mounted short shifter. feels great, for such a low budget upgrade.

very cool build!
If you still want to know more regarding M4 DCT's, you could contact Speedshop terstege in holland (close to the german border)
I think he mated a DCT to a M50, and also to a Ford Barra. maybe he can help you in the right direction.
Thanks for the Input. I am really interested in that. Even tho i have the manual gearbox back in, still a DCT would be the coolest thing ever, but now rather in the very distant future. Right now with my extreme lack of knowledge regarding DCTs its going to be a money pit and/or big PITA as i do not even know what i really need to control it, nor what box to get, what clutches...

Got a longer pipe fitting, cut it and rewelded it in an angle, after i was to weak to bend it, even when heated. tiny soldering torch was not powerful enough to make it glow tho.

Finally some progress.
Came up with an sidepipe style exhaust, now with a bigger rear muffler. Now i dont have to route it below the rear axle. way more ground clearance.
IMG_20201010_180428.jpg
To match the sleeper idea, i can now add a fake rusty tailpipe in a 2 inch diameter or so. my cage, interior and brakes already destroyed the perfect sleeper look tho.

Wanted to start the car with the new exhaust and clutch setup for the first time.
M30 Starter + M30 Single mass. Does not Start, just a bad grinding noise. i dont know if the starter does not fully engage, it does not turn the engine at all. Is there a special starter needed for the single mass fly?

Removed the intake to check the starter. M30 starter didnt fit properly. The teeth on the fly are a little damaged. But i couldnt even turn the motor over by hand. Found out that the flywheel makes slight contact with the oilpan on the inside...

So since i have to change the fly wheel now, i decided to pull the engine, because thats easier to do, than getting the gearbox out.. when i am on it i will cut and weld a bit in the bay and repaint it.
A little less than 4 hours and now the engine is out.
