Brake setup:
I finally started to use parts from the turbo-rat E34 - brakes just got 300miles on them. just rusty cause i never got to drive it :'( feels bad to rip appart a project you put so much time and effort in, but i guess thats just the way it goes.
I just started planning how to fit the rotors on the E21 and designed an adapter bracket for the new caliper. Will be at least a 4-piston caliper. Should be good for the new engine

I don't have power steering in my E30, and I used to have an E21 320is which also did not have power steering. In a car that light power steering is pretty pointless since its very easy to steer. I like the feel of no power steering and I think it adds a certain charm to the feel of driving.
AHHHH i see - maybe i missed to mention it: i contemplate to get rid of my power steering. I got a (kinda rare) E21 power steering rack and i would get a few bucks for it. But i want to drift and auto-X a bit (but 90%+ street use) and i dont have to much experience to deceide it a p/s is really needed for my project... i would love the lesser weight up front without it and not needing to fab up new hydraulic lines and stuff.

It's a drag... but well, the more i look the more i'll find. ^^

Oh man..
i was really lookin forward to get my front brake setup done this weekend - well after a little trouble with the parcel service my front hubs finally arrived. Even though the seller tripple checked if i know exactly if this part fits on my ride and i kinda felt like he thought that i am somewhat "special" just because i really really know what the heck i am ordering. He even asked for the VIN which would of course not help since this 5-lug hubs do not belong to an E21, as we all know...
well long story short: He sent me wrong hubs - i just opened the package and went full retard - its funny how he thinks i am to dumb to order the right parts, yet he sends ANOTHER part, that i never orderd and of course does not fit.
I did of course order NON-ABS hubs... so no brakes for the E21 this weekend.. >

The big single front headlights like you got look better. The squares are rare and cool in their own way, but I would sell and use the money on the project.
Looks really good! E21s can look very good and its more unique than the E30.
Junkyards arent plentiful in Europe and a lot of cars get scrapped for failing safety inspection/MOT.
Sounds like a good idea.
The really are - i like them both, but Street driven E30s are a bit of yuppie car these days in Germany. - E21s are nowhere that "hyped". The few left are either totally rotten, like mine, or are in collectors / enthusiasts hands.Looks really good! E21s can look very good and its more unique than the E30.
Most cars that fail MOT (called "TÜV" and is very very strict) go directly to afrika or eastern europe and still run there for another 30 years - thats where ALL the cool 70s and 80s cars are...Junkyards arent plentiful in Europe and a lot of cars get scrapped for failing safety inspection/MOT.
But back to topic:
Turned out the E12 5-Lug Hubs needed for the 5-Lug conversion on the front are no more available - nowhere. Not even used. That was an easy and cheap mod in the early 2000s... now its a PITA. Didnt expect that.
Then i pulled the rear axle out of my E34-Turbo and tried to fit it to the E21 body. But it is not possible, or at least not worth the huge amount of labour needed. The E34 rear trailing arm and E21-axle-mounting point interfere.
So i'm now checking out how to put the E34-LSD in the E21-axle... But for now i will just reasemble the E21-Axle without diff when i am done welding and do my meassurements later on with engine and transmission in the car.
A few pics:
E34 rear axle
Took it apart
The two diffs. Open E21-323 Diff next to the E34 520-LSD - Not only a big difference in size, also in weight.. and i didnt manage to open the cardan flange bolts on either of the diffs.
A few engines i consider to use 2.8 VR6 - M50B25TÜ - 2.0 16V

Its been a while. engine is in its place, wiring from X20 to E21 chassis is done and seems to work. Finishing the trunk to put the gas tank and stuff in to get it ready to fire up

Found out that my M50/M42 oem radiator wont fit with my intake..so i decided to maybe run the stock e21 radiator with its external expansion tank. BUT the hoses are connected differently than on the M50. Does it matter if the warm Water enters a radiator on top or on the bottom, or can it be the other way around also without causing issues? I dont see how it could not work, but who knows...

Wow, what a transformation, hats off to you for bringing it back to life.
500 bucks for a 3000 mls used SX300SXE 61mm Turbo with T4 0.88 Single Scroll housing ... on a stock internal M50B25 for the 350-450 horse powers range + a bit of headroom ... Yes or Noes? Lag City ?

hm, got a ported 2.8 here as well, that should spool it a bit earlier maybe. but for now it will be a stock m50b25tü with arps.

hmm not sure what turbo i should use in the end. its a small 49mm master power internally gated that should spool pretty quick vs. 19cm² T3 divided holset h1e with a (rather tiny for a h1e) 51mm/83mm compressor... other i could get would be the s362SX-E wit 0.81 T4 single scroll that would of course offer tons of headroom...

Just pulled the trigger and bought the S300-SXE turbo.. can it be 500whp e21 - time?
Aaaand i made a major step today. It fired up for the first time. With brake cleaner instead of fuel injection, but that means it got spark and my wiring is somewhat working. Time to sort everything out and add a good 22 psi or so.

I feel like that intercooler is too small for pump fuel gasoline applications.
If you are using E85 mostly or water/meth injection then I suppose it would be fine. It might wind up heat soaked though. I believe the turbo you chose from BW is an OIL-only cooled turbo, and the compressor cover runs 350*F operating temps, air will be at 220-250*F at the outlet most of the time. With some city driving, it will/may be a massive density loss if you cannot get that IAT back down before it hits the engine.
Just remember that when the intake air temperature is being high, if the water injection ever stops working the temperature can get out of hand quickly for use with typical gasoline. On one hand, the safer you are the more you inject, but on the other that becomes a temptation to raise the stakes with timing and boost, and see how much more meth you can inject. And then before you know it you are way past safety threshold for gasoline and the entire build depends solely on this one system working properly and being well maintained etc... And at some point, a pumpwill fail. Need to have a safety/cut.

Didnt want to cut the whole front to make any bigger off the shelf IC fit. would love to have a custom size one made, but not in the budget right now. Water Meth will be added for sure tho!
