on the bov issue even if it was technically better to put it before the cooler, vs after
to me the real problem is how big does the valve need to be perhaps or where does the vacuum line need to go even size of line.

i'm posting because my little "RFL" bov is starting to make the turbo CHO. at higher psi before it actually pops off, for a sec.
you think this would still happen if it where right after the turbo?

on the its venting already cooled air it's a waste so what? it'll dissipate 30 of those bov vents like in 1 second dont you think?
maybe i'm wrong but it seems like a nit picky argument.

Made good progress, but everytime i tried to upload pictures the board was buggy. no matter how tiny the pic size was, an error occured.

But long story short, overdone fuel system vent, built the turbo back exhaust and wired a few things. Went with a 168mm open rear diff to break it soon and a set of BMW 02 half shafts. Got to get the right prop shaft, cause mine got the small gearbox flange and i got a gearbox with the ībig flange. Except the prop-shaft issue its just hooking up the brake lines and cooling system to go on test rides. <3

Yeah, ordered a set of mounts to absorb the vibrations. maybe i am going to build a small case around the pump. but it got more quiet with increased load and therefore more fuel demand. but on idle its freakin annoying already.

hooked up the custom steel braided lines at the calipers and clutch cylinder today. <3 cant wait to get it on the road

For the fuel pump it helps alot if you mount a piece of foam between the pump and the floor. Attach the pump mounts to a square piece of aluminum like 200mmx200mm and glue a piece of foam to the bottom of it. Then glue the foam to the floor. That way it keeps the vibrations from the pump from transferring into the floor which acts like a big guitar body.

I will check that out. sounds like a plan.

Today i started wiring up the stand alone. Some sensores are already dialed in and VR trigger sensor seems to work fine. <3

I am curious how you're going to deal with HU and AU... I mean really if you can get it running really nice they probably will not be any wiser for AU, but i'm sure TUV will have issues with all the turbo stuff you added lol

So how do people get around it to drive them? I've see quite a few heavily modified vehicles cruising the autobahns on video

You need connections to get it approved and written in your documents by a specialist. and the checklist is loooong. and even if you meet every single criteria they can still refuse to approve it, because they do not want to be responsable for your DIY build. basically if you got a heavily modified turbo car in germany that is registered it was either approved by a specialist working hand in hand with the shop that built it for tons of moneyz and he just signs all the stuff without taking a closer look at the car or you will have no real chance to get it road legal. the best thing is, even when everything is documented and you carry that stuff around in your glovebox, ANY cop that pulls you over can doubt the correctnes of the approval and force you to go to a specialist working hand in hand with the local police station. they will take the car apart and will find irregularities and make you pay for it.

for example, i got a few more or less modified bikes i dont ride to often anymore cause its no fun to get your license plate revoked in the middle of nowhere when you are on a trip with your buddies just because your exhaust is to loud or your tail light is not meeting EU standards.

long story short, i need a few connections to get it done or register it abroad...

I'm aware of how hard it is... especially in your area (I used to live just outside of Calw)... but really it's all of Germany. Most of the people I knew that had wild cars also had dealer plates, but that presents another issue all together of course.

Well good luck with all of it. It's hard to see so much time and money put into a project that you cannot enjoy at will IMO so hopefully you get that all figured out.

THank you. Seems good so far, i got good chances to get it road legal.

i made a bit of progress since the last post.

When it finally runs, its time to tidy it up of course

    testfit it today

    e21 käfig2.jpg

ditching the cluster to get a tablet for speedo and anything else. primarily to get a working speedo and tach the easy way. e21 tach does use different signlas than later units, a pain to control, even with standalone. then the speedo is mechanical on the e21 as well and thats of course a no go on m50-gearboxes. so i am sending ecu live data to the tablet via bluetooth to display anything i want. i can also get rid of my hundres gauges and monitor whatever i want on the tablet.

and because cluster removal required to remove the steering wheel, i took the chance and got rid of the e21 steering wheel and added a m-tech i had on the shelve

true... but whats not china made in 2018 in a suitable price range? i would sure support a german made product, but everyone produces over there.. that 350IL DW pump is roughly 250$ in Germany, so i expect it to last maybe at least till i roll out of the garage, and not to stop working when i did not even idle tune if for more than 10 minutes.

I personally would only buy a Walbro/Ti pump over the junk you see rolling around most places...

    A Walbro 450/485E85 is $99 USD... it's bargain really.

AEM, DW, etc... all just meh.

Had a Walbro GST450K (was a bit more over here, maybe 150$) on my previous e34 turbo m50 and it never failed, then swapped it in my daily 540 e34 without any problems on a year of daily use... i just went away from the walbro cause i wanted an external pump thats ethanol resistant and flows enough for say 500 wheel on ethanol with a bit of headroom.

the DW seemed to be a good deal price and qualitywise... would have used a walbro for sure if there was a suitable external pump by them.

So, long time no update here. I have very little time at the moment, but my warranty claim is done and a new pump is on the way.

I also made a pretty good deal, got a full m54b30 engine with a cracked head to gut out. so my e21 will be a M50B30 turbo somewhere in the distant future... i still got a few questions considering that rotating assembly swap: are m54 rods and pistons stronger than M50 ones or weaker? what would be the best combo? and when ca i expect spool on pump with a m50b30 and a s362sx-e with a t4 open scroll 0.88 housing?

The pistons are better, the rods are worse, and 3500 rpms.
