    e46
Use would be dedicated track car . I assume i'd have to do subframe inspection and probable reenforcement , suspension is probably toast .

If I decided to put in a newer motor , would I need anything different over an e36 (I've been part of 2 e36 motor installs so far) , can I reuse the DME , just need the motor ? Are all e46 harnesses the same between 330 / 328 / 325 ? (I know the M3 is different)

I would not buy an E46 with those miles regardless of what it was to be used for. Remember, everything on the car has seen 334k miles. Every plastic part, every bolt, every screw, everything.

A dedicated track car? Absolutely but price would have to be less than $1000. Making it into a track car is no weekend project. Do all the proper reinforcements and you should have a fun toy

no the e36 motor is not the same, and wont work in an E46 without way more work then its worth.

330k miles is super high, Even if the car is free it still seems like a bad idea considering it needs a motor. If you are just looking for a track car why not look at salvage ones? You can pick up pretty decent e46 with much lower K for less then $1000. If you dont care about the title then its super easy.

I just bought a 330 5 speed with 140k miles for $570 at salvage auction. One window is broken and the car was key'd all over. I needed it for the driveline, but would of made a great track car.

I wasn't planning on an e36 motor , just wondering if the effort was the same , or there were any particular oddities on the e46

    Yes, please.
I bought my e46 pre "key'd" too. Good thing im not to fussy about scratches on the paint.

The act of swapping motors on the e36 vs e46 is basically the same. Aside from the general shape the motors are completely different though.
