I have this weird cover on my dash that is buckled and unattractive. Can anyone tell me what in the world it's supposed to be? Why doesn't the piece of plastic lay flat on my dash?
Its for an timed indicator panel that has lights that read "Oxygen Sensor and Fasten Your Seat Belts" and times out in 5 seconds or so when the key is on--goes with the key buzzer also,, when your mileage gets to 30,000 miles -Oxygen Sensor light will stay on until its reset in the engine bay, to get rid of it, the panel piece was used.

interesting, looks like a pc's 5.25" drive bay cover
Is the engine carbureted?

Actually it looks like the euro cover that goes in the same spot where the US car has the seatbelt or whatever warning light.
Edit: found the part number 64221366425 NLA looks like.

Is a 1.8 L European model fuel injected car. For some reason that little panel doesn't age like the plastic pieces next to it and ends up warping and buckling. It's a real eyesore…
Maybe try some real wood accents instead of the plastic cover?

I like epmedia's thought. How about putting a cd-rom drive in there for a faux "period" look cd player.
Just get a new one. They are available and cost around $5.
It probably would be a decent place to put a small digital gauge of some sort that could match the original look and swap displays for diagnostic sensors, outside temp, etc.

Just put back in the seat belt light and O2 sensor Light board and hook it up,, be original, besides it looks cool too. Mine has this board and lights--looks good.
Randy
Yea, the O2 sensor light also 2nd's an oil pressure dummy light.

Does anyone know where the relay for this seatbelt/02 sensor light is? My 02 sensor light never worked and seatbelt light comes on but does not activate the buzzer. Key buzzer is there (on the steering column) and working as it should.

The electric manual does not show a relay for either. Here's a copy of the ETM if you need one. It's about 4MB pdf file. The O2 sensor light is a bit tricky because it can be illuminated by both the oil pressure sender and the service interval switch. I've not followed the seat belt light stuff.

Thank you for all this information. Someone said I can get a new block off plate for $5? Where? I would also put a "fasten seat belt" thingy, but where do I get one of those? Finding parts for e21's isn't easy. I've been looking for an original lighter socket for 6 months now!
I just ordered part number: 64221366425 from ECS Tuning. I hope they are a good company, never worked with them before...
I've bought a few things from ECS over the years, and haven't had any bad experiences... but I have heard a few people have issues with buying something that's "in stock" only to find out that its not, AFTER they already processed their order.
that could be kinda annoying...
