I can get it to work for K CAN cars (95-07) but for the life of me will not connect to a 08 328xi I'm currently working on. 10/07 production date, but 08 model year. Won't connect VIA K CAN with any software (currently using Reingold ista d/p 3.54 I think it is), D CAN senses no vehicle.
I'm using a bcables silver cable, which is supposed to support both K and D CAN work. My question is, is my cable built correctly? I know there's something about bridging pins 7&8, which are not bridged/switched on my cable. Instead, 8 goes straight to the circuit board inside the plug, and pins 1&2 are wired to be switched for K/D CAN. Is this correct? Or did I get a 5 o'clock Friday/8 o'clock Monday cable?
Thanks for any/all input!

Cars built after 03/07 are D-CAN. If your cable works on K-line, pins 7+8 are bridged somehow. D-CAN requires that the pins remain separate. If there is no jumper wire, perhaps your cable mode needs to be switched with a software utility.
There is a D CAN utility with the cable, but no matter the switch position and software setup, it just won't connect at all. Here's how this cable is configured internally.....I'm almost tempted to just say screw it and get the Reingold tablet and be done with it all being that at that point, at least I know that will work forward and backwards.....

RheingoldUSA is just reselling chinese clones with pirated software and calling them certified and mislabeling them as made in USA. All while making themselves look like they are some kind of official or something. Don't buy into that nonsense.

That's my cable. I think I'll try getting one from this guy and see what happens. I'd really hate to nuke my laptop and start over.
Do you have the cable like this that you would be willing to pop open and snap a few pics?
Nevermind....I just realized this one doesn't have a switch. It must be a software switch.

If you're going to be using it mainly on 2006 and older, then you can bridge in internally by soldering, or use a bridging adapter.

the white cable you have will never do can cars from my experience... anything past early 07. I have about 15 of them in a junk bin for this reason
