Sorry for coming, without all the details.
1992, sat for 5 years, aupposedly had a tranny rebuild by the previous owner. Slowly resuscitating this car for my son. Shortly after acquiring this car almost a year ago, it went into limp mode. We have a repair garage in the family, but they refuse to admit what they dont know. I had posted here about it, had suggestions to check the modules, eventually, we did a battery upgrade which remedied the limp mode.
He has been successfully driving the car for about 2 months now. Yestereday I get the panic pone call, stuck on an offramp. While driving, pulled out from a stop sign and had nothing, not even a slip. No forward or revers ears work. Spoke with a transmission shop today in preparation to tow it there tomorrow, he is concerned because according to him, with any problem it should go to limp mode. Not a complete failure.
Any thoughts
Checked it has ATF in it and the shift cable is intact? Generally speaking, they do go into limp mode - you get 'trans program' or a gear symbol in the cluster. Is that what happened?

Although a different trans in mine I had a similar scenario recently which turned out to be valve body problems that were cured by dismantling and cleaning.
Having said that I know most trans shops are there to sell complete overhauls rather than doing much real diagnosis beforehand so buckle up for that.
Good luck.
