Electrical Problem Swapping BMW Seats into Classic Car

I have a 78 Dodge Magnum that I bought from a Florida salvage yard, memory seats from a late model BMW Coupe. Frankly, I don't know the model or year.

They're installed with only the Power and ground wires installed, but not the other four.

Problem is that both driver and passenger will work for only briefly, before they stop working. If you disconnect battery for awhile and then rehook up, they'll again work briefly. Assuming that this has something to do with the memory not being hooked up and hoping some one here can roll us (a friend has handled the installation into my car) a bone and can help us wire properly. I don't so much care if I have memory, but need seats to work.

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the Forum!

It is very important to know what year and model those seats came out of, for BMW's share some common wiring, but not all. Can you take a picture of the seats, and connector, for this should help with identifying them.

Bummer -- I'd posted photos and I could see them when I posted -- but now they're gone.

let me try posting by downloading instead off links

It appears I'm not allowed to post photos. The below is a link to a photo album of the car, which has photos of the seats.

Yes, the link works. I would say that those are E-92 seats, and do you have the colors of the wires? Off the top of my head I would say that there should be about a dozen wires at the connector: 2 for the seat belt receiver or buzzer; 2 for the tensioner; 2 for the power and ground; 1 going back to the General module, and a couple more if it has seat heating.

I'm home suffering from gout at the moment, but I thought he said that there were six. The power and ground which are connected, and the other four not connected. Of that four, he tells me he knows two are for the safety air bags in the seats and doesn't have a clue on other two.

You should only need the power (normally red) and ground (normally brown) in order for them to work properly. How is it wired in? Should be about 2.5mm wires which are about 12/14 gauge wire with a 30 amp fuse

Mostly, as I can see the second color of the power which is white, not sure on the first one though.....

Thank-you for this diagram, could you tell which is the first color for the power wire?

Wish there was an easy way to share from the WDS. This should be better.

Now, if that seat has the SMFA seat module, it's much more complex.

Hmmm, Auto Stop / Start translates to the ASS system.....fitting.

It's easy to give a name to an "SMFA" module, isn't it?

    Sorry, I digressed.....

If the seats work briefly, and then they stop until a power reset is done, I'd have to guess that there's a computer involved, maybe the Stupid M.F.A. module?
