    paint new calipers?

Heya - do I need to paint new front brake calipers so they dont rust? Got an OEM (NuGeon brand) set from Autohaus and it looks like they're bare cast iron. Can't see any coting on them..will paint them if I need to but dang they're gonna be a pain to mask.

    Thanks!

What I do is just use some rustoleum automotive clear lacquer. No masking other than where the line goes in and most rebuilds have rubber plugs in there already. Alternate is caliper paint like VHT. Some will use zinc-based for anti-rust since most of the originals have this coating. In New England, rust is a way of life so I don't go crazy.

Ahh good call on the clear coat, won't show the inevitable dings from use. Ordered some VHT clear. Maybe someday I'll get some upgraded calipers but the stock ones seem to stop fine for my use. Thanks!

Multiple threads on brake upgrades but the bottom line is if you dont race, the stock are more than good enough when combined with good pads and SS brake lines.

sorry, but i really like the improved feel of e34 rear brakes at a minimun. Consider your stock rear brakes are the same rear brakes as an e30 325e....Either the e30 has huge rear brakes, not really, or the e24 is underbraked, just my opinion and getting away from the op orginal question... Pull the rubber sleeves and tape the piston seals and you are good to go

I've used my 633 CSi on the track with the old brakes. Rears ate pads but apart from pads going quicklythey worked just fine. I do have e34 540 rears o at the moment.
