Hello all. Am not sure if this was asked already and if it was I don't know where to find it, sorry. I drove 800 miles yesterday. Half way through the trip the check engine light came on and the engine hesitated but only lasted probably 3 minutes before the light went out and the engine ran fine from then on until I got back home. I was on city streets that time so I pulled into a parking lot to see what's going on and I got a 1215 code. Has anybody gone through something like this and did you replace MAF sensor just to make sure it does not happen again. Thanks again for your help.
Clean then with MAF sensor cleaner or electric parts cleaner. Something that will not leave a film. NEVER touch the MAF wires with something, they are fragile.

M30 has a volume air flow sensor, AFM , completely different from the MAF http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=13_1370

It's that expensive and discontinued? Bummer!
There are plenty of cheap used ones available, same was used on the E34 M30 engine and some other BMW. Use www.realoem.com and find out the correct part number with your VIN, then go back to the start of realoem and paste there the part number in in search by part number and all BMW will be shown which use the same part.
A 1215 code can mean that there is a fault in the AFM or it can mean that something is producing an upset in the A/F ratio. The latter can be caused by an intake leak or a fuel delivery problem. A smoke test will tell if intake leaks are present and the suite of fuel system tests in the Bentley manual will tell if there are problems with fuel delivery. If those tests are negative, replace the AFM.

I have ordered the boot since I found cracks on it even though it's just on the outside. Shipping cost is almost the cost of the boot but I need it. Thanks for the help. I actually did a resistance test on the AFM last night and there seem to be a spot where the resistance changes abruptly as the "flap" gets moved inward. Am not ready to open it up as shown in the video but maybe in the near future. Thanks again. The boot is on the way together with the aux fan resistor (another story).
