    Rear window trim disintegrating

This has been happening for a couple years now, the trim around rear window is brittle and cracked and basically falling off in pieces. I had a window fixed for my daughters car a few months back and asked the glass guy about if it would leak he said no but wasn't sure how to replace or if window has to come out. Bottom line has anyone replaced this and what parts or tools needed. Thanks in advance!

That's a common BMW issue... amazing a $70k car does this but a $20k car does not

My '01 did it and my '10 is too

I've done a little research on aftermarket replacement for front and rear with little results

Yeah i am looking at selling it so i can get into a 335 IS and want to start fixing stumping things like that. Car is perfect but that is so distracting. Just dont know how its attached and if its replaceable.

It is easily replaceable. Get the part from the dealership or online retailer, rip the old one out, and install the new one. Spray plenty of glass cleaner on the glass and body to help it slide into place (preferably the non-ammonia foaming kind out of an aerosol can)

I have typically sprayed soapy water on the glass and gasket to create some lubrication and allow the gasket to slide into place more easily. Don't have to worry about the chemical composition of it.

It is extremely easy for rear windscreen. Pull the old one off, clean the grooves and glass. Use a little soapy water to help the sliding on process. Get the corners up top set then work your way around. When you get the seal put in, push it all the way in to seal it. Go around twice to make sure pushing one spot didn't pull it out from another. Should be done in an hour.

Front windshield is the same except the corners have metal on the edges and a adhesive strip. After cleaning, place new seal into groove and press it in. On the corner pay attention because it is tricky. Mine haven't gone all the way in so it can look a bit good idea it doesn't. When seal is evenly spaced from left and right, slowly pull back the tape and press I'm the adhesive. It will stick immediately so be ready for it. To relearn the sunroof position, push the sunroof vent button for 15 seconds and the roof will fully open, close, and vent, then you're all set. It might be the sunroof close button for 15 seconds but I can't remember. Internet knows which button.

Sunroof is easy. Pull old off. Thoroughly clean mating surface. Work inch by inch to have it smoothly placed along the top of the roofline as you peel back the tape.
Source: interwebs and I did this a few months back because mine was cracking.
