Hi guys
New to the site, so apologies if it's not posted in the correct area!.
I've recently bought a e36 328i sport auto, been mint for the last few weeks until today.
Drove for about 15- 20 minutes down the motorway tonight gave it abit of a boot , when I pulled off and came to a stop I noticed a slight vibration while stopped in drive. Pulled over and put it into reverse then back into drive which seemed to clear it for about a minute then it started again. Turned the engine off then started it again in park, again it was fine, put it in drive and after about 30 or so seconds it came back 😰.
Hopefully it's not anything too serious, if anyone could help us out it would be most appreciated !
Cheers lee.
Start with changing the transmission filter and oil as these are the most neglected maintence item on the old automatic transmission due to the false life time warranty fluid. And also visit a dealer or a BMW specialist to pull codes from your dme (engine computer) and egs (transmission computer) also worth checking your engine mounts and your transmission mounts.

I recommend a smoke test of the intake system.

Cheers. Funny you said about mounts, soon as I booted it I did here a loud noise and sounded like something fell off. Or kicked up by the wheel, going to take it to a specialist this week see what they say. 👍
"Lifetime fluids" was a marketing ploy and not a maintenance philosophy!
If the vibration is intermittent, and is present in P,R,N, and D, (as per the title), and goes away briefly when the revs change from in gear to P/N, I would tend to suspect this is the DME responding to airflow changes -- incorrectly -- likely from intake leaks, bad maf, etc.
I've never known dirty fluid to cause the issues mentioned here.
I absolutely agree that the transmission needs fresh oil and filter every ~60k miles.

Cheer mate will let you know 👍
Hi lads, quick update problem solved!, turned out the 2 of the viscous fan blades decided they didnt want to be in the car anymore causing it to be un balanced on idle or revving. To the huge repair bill of.. 82.00 😃😃.
Thanks again for the advice though 👍
Anytime dude! Glad you have solved your issue

WARNING: THE PROBLEM IS NOT SOLVED !!!
Those fan blades didn't just "come off". Something is badly messed up. The fan blades are the result, not the cause.
Possibilities: Bad water pump. Bad engine mounts. Loose fan shroud. Bad fan clutch.
SOMETHING ELSE IS WRONG, and you need to find out what it is that's allowing the fan blades to hit something else.

Hi mate thanks for the info I'll take you're advice, they did say the plastic fan very brittle, as it's been in the south of Spain for the last 10 years ☀️☀️
