Hello. I'm a new owner of a 2011 e93. The car is an automatic with the M-Sport package, 46,000mi. Car was previously CPO and from what I see from the prior owner meticulously maintained at the dealership. When in normal drive mode (not sport), driving in stop and go traffic, the car "lurches" between second and third gears. This behavior is particularly noticeable when I just about reach the speed at which the car will shift from 2 to 3, and then I lift off the accelerator because I need to decelerate in traffic. I don't have any experience with any other E9X cars, but I can describe the feeling as similar to placing the car in sport mode with manual shift, revving up to 4000rpm in 2nd and then shifting to 3rd-- but of course the car does this when not in sport mode.
Any advice is greatly appreciated on how to remedy. Thanks
Solutions to the hard shifting are somewhat varied. It also might depend whether you have the 328i or 335i, as they have different transmissions.
Starting with the simple things, many cars have been helped by updated transmission software. Hard shifts can be caused by low fluid, old fluid, bad adaptations, bad solenoids, engine issues, or leaking mechatronic seals.
Your car has low mileage, so fluid shouldn't be a problem. I would be interested in looking at the transmission adaptations to see if the values are weird. Do you have any codes or lights on?
You would think that adaptations numbers would be good for such a low mileage car, talk to an independent shop about it. Could be software problem if it is the whole car may require a complete update. When peogramming with Ista it may not allow you to code only one part of the car.
