    1997 Z3 2.8 - did all Z3s have HK system?

Hi all. My radio seems to work good; same with speakers and sub is not perfect. If there is a sub is it an HK system? This speaker enclosure is in between the seats in the back. Some newer Z3s I've looked at, when I'd see HK branding on the HU and that sub it was obvious. I don't see any HK branding so does the sun indicate it's the premium HK pkg?

I guess I will (once I have some time ha ha) pull the sub grill or a speaker grill to see the branding on the speaker itself. The stereo doesn't have any markings or words and if the sub had something like that at one time, it's gone. I did notice that there are lower door speakers, upper speakers (tweeters?), small speakers behind the head of the seats and the sub. There is also a BMW CD changer in the trunk. Not sure if because of all the speakers it was a premium audio package.. I'm hoping it wasn't HK so I can switch out speakers initially to help the sound quality a bit... then little by little change the amp and HU out. oh how the list grows longer! ha ha

Oh hey... I pulled the VIN and it looks like it was an HK system... egaads .. here's the VIN info... does that line item "S380 Hardtop-preparation" imply that it's ready for a hardtop? If so, I'm going to look for one for sale. I understood that getting it prepped for a hardtop was spendy...

Yes, look up the VIN--that Russian site used to work well for our cars, but I'm glad you found another. You can tell if it's got a hard top mounting kit by looking for the hard top mounting points just behind the door jam at the B pillars. There would be two plastic covers with little plastic doors that swivel to reveal the mounting holes. More likely that code S380 indicates that the wiring is in place for the rear defrost connections and switch.

Coupes had 3 different systems available, I dont know about roadsters but you can chec with your win number from realoem, and check hifi option and you can see all the variations that were available at the time for similar models that you have.

Z3 & E36 RamAir systems, send private message for more information.

Fitting brackets should be here too.
