So as we all know some people opt to do sub-par work to their vehicles. One thing I know people do is put some type of head gasket sealer into their cooling systems instead of repairing the head gasket properly. Is there any way to tell if something like that has been used? I've heard of people using Blue Devil...which is clear. Does that stuff leave a residue or something that would be visible?
Thanks

Every block sealer I've seen has a very visible and palpable residue which usually is found in the top hose and other horizontal passages....grey sludge. Personally, I have never witnessed any of these things work on a faulty head gasket. I have, however, found them to have been used on incredibly stupid ancillary issues, like leaking hoses.......
Of course, these "sealants" block radiator passages, as well as the small holes in the head gasket. (So someone puts the sludge in an engine with a leaking hose, and crucial coolant passages are clogged, and NOW there's a blown headgasket!
If you're suspecting a car to have had sealant, I'd pull the top hose, and look for residue.
