The Heated seats and A/C freeway MONSTER: 535is Manual. Includes m30 CARNAGE

I picked this 535i up for $500 in Dec 2016. It had a big crack in the radiator, I filled her up charged the battery and drove it home. Replaced radiator, oil change, plugs, and put a new tstat in which it had non. Drove it for 2 months, it had a very bad lifter tick, radiator hose blew, overheated some to get to a safe spot to pull, over, replaced, drove another month, threw in a ecu chip, revved to 6500 and BOOM. Big white smoke cloud and a dead motor.

It sat about 4 months then I got it to my shop, where I found this. Peakaboo!

    20170710_162620.jpg

Best I can tell the loose rocker moved off the valve stem, pushed the spring down to release the keepers, the valve fell into the piston. Ill post another pic of the head and piece of valve.

So I dug out my old 535i motor that's been sitting for 6 years, it was wrapped up and covered with oil and coolant in it at least. Had a 180k miles, ran good, burned no oil, was from an auto and an old lady owned it before me.

It was a little rusty on the cylinder walls but polished up ok. I replaced ALL the gaskets and seals, the timing chain and both guides, oil pump chain and tensioner and cleaned everything out really good. There was a lot of sludgy goop in the oil pan.

And this is where it was at the other day...

    20170912_144350.jpg

Now the head is bolted down.

    Of yeah aaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd

    Rocker Lock for M10/M30

    24lb injectors

    intake

3" exhaust from downpipe to glass pack to dual tip muffler.

I will take pics of the car and post this weekend. Cant seem to find ones, if I had any.

The car is pretty clean in and out and it drove good aside from needing shocks. And to get rid of ugly chrome rims.

That looks comprehensive I hope this wasn't a surprise. Too bad to see one of these old dinosaurs die for no good reason. Word is that oil pumps are getting scarce for them so may want to at least save that.

Totally expected, the guy I bought it from said the motor was done for. Yes maybe I could have taken the hour to adjust the valves and it would have saved it. I was gunna lol. But it had been overheated many times in the past and had almost 300k miles. I think its life was exceeded so why not go with a BANG! Literately.

But at least I have the resources to make it more awesome now.

Really theres lots of m30's around here can get the motors for a few hundred bucks. I will save the oil pump ok, if there's not metal chucks in it lol.

So true, theres a video that I've loved of these russian guys railing an e34 thru the streets, and some e30 action, its from early 2000's and has offspring "keep em separated" old school mania.

Ive blown up more than just a few bmws and plenty of auto trans lol.

On the car, I forgot to take pics at work today, was super busy.

HaHa, yeah well the OP/we know it was going to happen anyway. Was sold cheap because of overheating (ie, needs a new engine). I don't think anything could have saved. May as well have fun and wait for the boom (as long as you had towing and a ride back at the ready!)

Jeez time goes so quick. Spent most of the summer rebuilding my Jeep...

This things been sitting all summer cause it didn't really run right well the rear injector plug popped out of the plastic wiring case and was not plugged in! Stooopid!

Now it leaves two stripes thru 3rd gear and can go around 160mph

    I'll get some vids posted

I had a similar issue years ago after installing an NA built motor with a cam. It sounded a little loopy at idle, but pulled strong. Figured it was the cam and it needed tuning. Since this was 2001, I had to ship to the car to a tuner to get a custom chip burned for it. Only pulled 150 rwhp, when 160 rwhp is stock on that dyno. They couldn't figure out what was wrong. Authorized 4 hours of diagnosis time. 3 and a half hours in they found it. Loose injector plug. Click, suddenly the car was doing 180 rwhp. After the tuning was finish, my b35 was putting 210/180 down to the wheels. Certainly was nice, but wasn't leaving tire marks on the ground thru 3rd gear, since it was wearing 255s MPS tires. Even now with 400rwhp, it doesn't spin the tires in 2nd once they are warm. Cold on the other hand...

Yea it was a dumb issue but so glad it was simple.

Ive followed your car for years its kinda been my model of what I'd like mine to be one day. Thanks for the response

With old a/s 205's it was spinning them up to 3rd, it was pretty cold out too.

Thats ok because I now have a set of 17x8 tsw wheels and my 245/45 bfg sport comp 2s will be here next week

    I also just ordered....

    H&R sports
New meyle HD shock mounts front and rear, the newer style 22mm nut for the front as thats what matches the struts I already have.
Bilstein sport shocks for the rear

I will be using some new in the box no name shocks from rock auto that came with the car for the front. I think they are monroe

My budget, I mean my credit cards, are getting pretty tapped... I just cant do the $500! for 2 bilstein front sport shocks right now.

This will get me by and handling good for a bit.

Oh and I have about 700 miles on the motor, just changed the oil at like 600. Using Driven Racing BR40 break in oil on this and my Jeep.

I'm trying to make this thing handle good and I thought it was all in the shocks but its actually the front upper control arm ball joint and rear sub frame bushings and trailing arm dog bones are F'ed.

Im trying to figure out what springs are in this car, these do not look stock.
I already ordered the H&R sports so I guess I will see what they really look like.
    50400e901102eeed2b3a58a237f65676.jpg

I just ordered from fcp euro. These are the things I found really worn out by prying on everything with a big ass pry bar.
    Total $208.12

All this should get this thing handling on track.

Now just need a lightweight flywheel and clutch to hold power and I will be happy! For a minute.....

So something really weird came up... everything was great til mounting the rims and the passenger front was rubbing on the strut housing. But driver side cleared good.

    See pics

So.. i took a fing hammer to the top of the strut housing and the side and a grinder to the weld and made that beotch fit.

Its not rubbing. Its driving great comparatively. My friends all say wow it feels connected to the road now. Major improvement.

What i want to know is wtf is going on on the passenger side. It has to be a bent strut housing right?

Clutch has been slipping really bad the last month. Then I couldn't go over 35mph without it just reving.

    So this goodness happend

Along with a sachs m5 clutch.

So $900 later but its gonna be awesome. Putting it in this weekend.

Any particular reason for the JB racing vs. the RHD lightweight flywheel? I know either way you’ll enjoy the flywheel!

I went with the m5 JB because it will be the last flywheel I need, as the disc is replaceable and they are a well known company. Also it came with the proper hardened bolts for the flywheel and came with nice Allen bolts for the pressure place.

    From here $500

    https://www.bimmerworld.com/JB...-M5...0-Engines.html

It is 8 lbs and I have no problem driving it, it rev matches so much faster, shifts better, all around better. I can't wait for WOT and REDLINE!

Then a m5 sachs clutch kit for $380

It drives amazing, although I have not gone over 4000 rpm or half throttle. Going to give it a 300-200 mile break in...

    This thing is pretty.

Sounds like a deal to me! It really transforms the car, doesn’t it? Luckily mine hasn’t warped or anything like that, a little under a year later, knock on wood. Excited to see more of this thread.

Sadly in fall of 2019 this car was t boned in a walmart parking lot...
It dented the wheel arch, buckled the rear door sill and b pillar.

I drove it for awhile with the rear passenger door smashed, then put megasquirt in, then blew the clutch up among other things.

Scrapped the car and the engines going in my e30 with a holset he351
