So - I assume from the conspicuous silence on the matter - these lenses are not actually made-by-Hella (as the listings very much would imply), but are actually made-by-DJAuto-but-happen-to-fit-Hella, right?

Yup, that's right. The fit is quite good, the tab locks are a bit fragile compared to oem and take more effort to "clip" in but after that it's fine.

I found that it is best to remove your existing butyl, reapply, then lay the lenses.

correct, best to remove the butyl and/or permaseal for perfect fit.

We do have a source for Hella made lenses but they don't come with chrome inserts, weather stripping, or the dust cap.

...And whatever happened to the other angel eye bulb models. V5 / V6. Kinda of a shame it's just the old ice lite (3W) and top end ICE VXX (15W) with no middle ground anymore like the old days 6W/8W/10W.

People were just getting confused. Right now the ICE VXX is on special for a 1 year warranty item at $89 - the V5/V6 would have been 59-69, so this is a no big deal upgrade at $20-30 more to get a much better quality unit.

Additionally - we've simply been too busy to detail the work we do, we've got over 14 headlights back ordered for custom builds - check out our instagram - www.instagram.com/umnitza_official for the latest - and just don't have enough time to document the build process for permaseal removal on E39 lights...also the 1 customer that wanted us to do it decided not to.
