I've explained all this in many other headlight threads in the past.

Well. Definitely don't search for threads and posts with Snotty's username and "headlights". That definitely would be too much work.

Much better if he does that for you. Or better yet - since clicking links is hard - he should just type it all again here for you. That's what he's here for - to relieve others of minor inconveniences. He doesn't mind.

Im confused by that too. They say "Hella" everywhere in the listing but then Hella takeoffs seem to be $50 more on the same site.

I can't speak for everyone, but I'm not curious about Snotty's method. I'm curious about the secret umnitza method that was mentioned previously in another thread and then brought up again at the beginning of this thread.

There's only one way to open up the post August or September 2002 headlights, and since I have absolutely nothing to do today, I am in lazy mode, so I can't look up any of my old posts. All you lazy dudes, and dudettes are gonna have to simply report my laziness to the mod squad....

Yeah, I bought mine from ECS and it also said Hella only to find out it says DJ Auto on the corner of the lens.

Our technique should not require cutting the lenses. We've done it on a few cars.
Although cutting is the fastest, it's the messiest.

No cutting? Ok, you're a supporting member here, show us how you do this without any cutting. BMW uses urethane on the post 2002 housings. Now I want to know how you guys do it. Put your money where your mouth is.

Well i can kill and gut a housing/lens in 1hr for prep of a new lens. To minimize the risk of cracking housings (of which i've trashed a few) at the expense of more time, cleaner look, AND salvage old lenses. I'm. All. Ears.

because as far as i know, the tools used to separate newer perma housings aren't that applicable to e39s as the housing plastic is considerably more prone to fracturing given the extremely small work space and sheer amount of force required. Not to mention corners. A simple slip of the blade has split housings in the past.

That's a post for replacing the headlight adjusters. It's a great exercise in patience.

Air pressure is my guess, drill a hole through the AE light bulb holder, stick an air nozzle blower in there, nail it with a hunnerd PSI's and pop that lens off.... Yeah, right....

Hey I don't mind the cutting method if it's quicker.

So - I assume from the conspicuous silence on the matter - these lenses are not actually made-by-Hella (as the listings very much would imply), but are actually made-by-DJAuto-but-happen-to-fit-Hella, right?
