I have an e60 535xi and I'm having trouble removing the guibo. Unlike rear-wheel drive models, the xi models seem to have an extra rubber-like shroud around the guibo that makes it impossible to access the nuts on the transfer case side. This also makes removal of the guibo bolts impossible since they would only spin when rotating. I don't need to replace the guibo, so I'd like to keep it in good shape. How am I supposed to remove this thing? There's a small access hole in the bottom of the shroud, but I can't rotate the driveshaft even though I disconnected it from the rear differential. The transfer case keeps it from rotating. I can't start the car to put it in neutral either. Anyone done this before? I've inserted a picture below so you can see the problem.

Nevermind...
It turns out that the Bentley manual led me astray this time. There are no nuts on the bolts that secure the guibo to the transfer case flange (3 of them). Just back them out. No need to worry about damaging the guibo like the Bentley manual suggests. Strange that this model is different, but oh well!
What project are you doing that requires DS removal? Clutch?
