Hi all, I currently have a 1.9 2002 Z3 with head gasket failure and a cracked block. Basically... I have been told I need a new engine but i may aswell drop an m52b28 in there.
I know it will cost more money than buying a 2.8 but I want to do it for the experience and because I love the car, also as a non runner my Z is worthless 😂
Owned the 1.9 since I was 18 and it was all I could afford on the insurance back then.
I know the best option is a doner car, but don't know wether it has to be a Z3 or just an E36... Do I need the Z3 car wiring loom from a 2.8 or just the engine loom? From a m52b28
And what do I need in regards to EWS?
Can pick up 80k write offs pretty cheap and I have access to all the tools I need
Anything else I need to know? If I had a doner I'd have access to the brakes, exhaust and everything... While it's all out I know I may as well bolt an M50 manifold on too
But what about the diff? I heard you can use the lower ratio and get great acceleration but it might crap it's self... Guess if I've got a doner I've got a spare diff but my 1.9 diff is LSD so would like to keep it
I had found a garage with a 60k engine and full transmition fitted for £2500 ish, but didn't have the funds so had to let it go and am kicking myself for not biting the bullet and getting it all fitted, 60k non drifted m52s must be getting quite rare!
Cheers for reading, all help appreciated
e36 to Z3 should be the same mounts and such. I would assume you just need the engine harness and computer from the donor. The body wiring shouldn't be different. If you had a whole donor car it should be a pretty easy swap.
Correct, and EWS is a simple ews align job. No need to disable or anything.
