2002 325ci, 231,000 miles. Lately when I start the car in the morning, the engine runs ruff. Engine idles initially around 900-1000 RPM. After the engine warms up little the RPM drop to 600-700 RPM and then runs smooth. Any ideas?
Hello - what exactly do you mean by 'ruff'? Do you hear/feel a knock or vibration? Engine idle at 900-1k before warm up sounds normal. Did you get any check lights on the dash? If you think there might be something going on, try pulling the codes; this should give you the necessary info.

You may just be noticing the sounds of a normally operating secondary air pump.
It operates for 30~90 seconds upon startup.
Pelican Parts, the car has a slight vibration, you can hear that the engine is not running smooth. No tapping or any other motor noises. Once the idle drops to 600 RPM, she purs like a kitten. It is just the initial start up in the morning. When I start the car after work, the engine runs smooth at 1000 RPM.

I replaced them last fall.
I would recommend what has already been suggested - a diagnostic scan for codes,
replace sparkplugs(NGK),and also remove and clean the IAC Valve,
as well as checking rubber intake boots and associated hoses for cracks, causing intake leaks.
What is IAC valve and where is it located?

IACV=Idle Air Control Valve or also called Idle Regulating Valve.

I doubt it's the idle control valve as the engine idled fine after warm up. OP, does the engine idle fine immediately after the engine is idling at ~650 rpm? How many miles on the car? Have you scanned the engine computer for codes?
Yes, the engine idles when it hits 650 RPM. The care has 231,000. I actually just cleared all of the codes due to other work I was doing on the car. I a giving it a week to see what pops up.
Hey guys I have a question? I have a 2005 325xi I have replaced the ccv also done the valve cover gasket, the intake boot, the vacuum line behind the intake and the ones to the side I can see. I still have a ruff idle only under load, it weird. Ive cleaned the idle control valve also.It does have a oil pan leak. Ive done all i know. Does any one have any suggestions?
Could be motor mounts.
My car runs smooth until I turn on the lights, ac or heater,
Check battery voltage with a multi-meter,
Both running and non-running voltage.
Any warning lights on?
The engine computer (DME in BMWspeak) uses an extra rich fuel/air mixture when the engine is cold. This is done to get the catalytic converters up to temperature quickly. The DME also turns in the secondary air pump (SAP) to inject air into the exhaust manifold. This is done so that the unburned gasoline (remember the DME is running an overly rich fuel/air mix) can be burned at the catalytic converters. The DME reverts to a normal fuel/air mix once the engine reaches a specific temperature as determined by the coolant temperature sensor in the cylinder head between cylinders 5 and 6. What appears to be happening is fuel/air mix during this cold start/cold run period isn’t correct: it’s probalby lean.
Hey guy a question.. could a oil pan leak cause a vacuum leak? Its leaking pretty good oil
A straight up hole in the oil pan would, at least for as long as it took for the engine to seize from the loss of oil. If it's just leaking, no chance. The crankcase is only under slight vacuum. Not enough to pull air past a leaking gasket.
Valve Cover leaks are known to cause lean codes, Oil Pan leak should have the same effect.Yes,
It's a sealed system, so same as a valve cover leak, it will cause the same symptoms.

Question.. I have a 200 325xi done a lot of work with the most common issues. I have no loss of power it runs great, but the idle surges at a stop. I have no codes coming up. What could this be. I have replace intake boot, vacuum lines, valve cover gasket, oil filter gasket, fuel filter, battery. Could the idler tensioner cause this problem? I have the piston lookin one. I know the pulley needs to be replace I see the belt moving a little as it is running. Its a bear trying to fix something that has no codes. Any suggestions?
question
Question has anyone replaced their review mirror. Can you use any auto dimming mirror will any fit the plug?
