Rumors are still swirling regarding the new 8 Series coming in 2018. It seems fairly certain from various automotive publications that there's going to be a beefed up 4.4l twin-turbo V8 slated for the M8, paired to some advanced 8 speed auto with all 4 wheels driven.

And who knows what Alpina is going to do...I generally appreciate their passion for BMW enhancing, but to be honest I'm not a huge late model Alpina fan- boi.

I think BMW GmbH has a great opportunity here, to pay some homage to the E31 community and to the M8 that never was, but is soon to be.

I don't have so lofty a dream to ever expect a manual transmission in the new 8'er, but I must say that a V12 engine option would be just about the coolest thing BMW could do with the new platform. In researching for this post, I see the Wikipedia article is already prognosticating exactly what I'm also foreshadowing (i.e. dreaming of).

It must have been an executive with some serious knackwurst stuffed in his (or her) lederhosen to get approval for making the N74B66 powered M760i xDrive, but God bless them. The motor's out in the wild now, and although peak horsepower will virtually match the tweaked V8 powerplant, the nearly 600 ft-pounds of torque should arrive at almost 1500 RPM sooner with the 12 pot mill.

I'll tell you right now, any protruding forked grill sin committed by Hooydonk on the production car will quickly be forgiven should a V12 badge be validated for the rear deck lid of the M8!

I think the possibility of this motor eventually being included on the M8 is greater than 50%. Part of me believes the M760i was created as a test bed for this plan. Isn't automotive-conspiracy theory fun?

If BMW doesn't follow through with what I believe to be an obvious play, I think ~30 of us should all pitch in about $10k each, and buy the needed M760i xDrive donor car and a 2019 M8 so we can have the ultimate 8'er wrench-fest/engine swap party. Are we all in agreement on ordering the M8 in Hellrot?

v12's are not off-this-time anymore..... (love to see it but don't see it happening)

Hybrid or e-drive is more likely.

And red is for ferrari's (sorry not my color for an 8-series), just my taste.

Have no fear - BMW will produce a V12 M-version of the new G14/G15/G16 8-series.
The company has already invested heavily in developing and producing that powerplant, so it would make economic sense not to limit it's application to just the G11/G12 7-series.

Eh, they didn't develop much. It is the same N74 engine from the past decade with a little more boost.

It's a technical update of the N74B66 that was initially used in the Rolls Ghost, which itself is a simply a stroked version of the N74B60 from the old 760...

Have to throw it out there, but who wants a brand new 8 series that's is 4 short? Old logic still applies in the modem era!
