Ugly. Their design skills peaked with the e31, imho.

I was at our local Eurofest this last weekend, and someone brought a i8. i was able to look at the close up, he even was letting people sit in it. when you see one up close, it is amazing how nice this car is, when pulling up it looked like something from the future. the styling details are incredible. later a women pulled up in another i8, first time i have ever seen 2 at the same time. just as the e31 was fwd thinking, i feel having the i8 called the 840/850 would be just as fwd thinking.

Can't distinguish it from all the other Aston Martin wannabe's.

Nothing like a Aston, get up close to one, well worth 140 grand.

Just as the E24 crowd had to face the ghastly F06 our turn will eventually come...

Let's face it, we don't 'get' the design because most of us aren't what the new 8 has as its core market in the design brief.

I was able to get photos of my 8 next to a new i8 at the dealer during our spring cleanup event. Great contrast. The i8 has its own high tech beauty but its hard to beat the timeless styling of the 850i.

Not sure if I love the looks, but will have to wait and see. At first I didn't love the i8 form the pics, but when I saw one up close, it looks pretty nice. But a guy at our local meet up said he had one for a while and didn't really like it. Traded it in for an M3 comp pack with other after market upgrades.

I wonder would having a new 8-series in the market add any value to its E31 ancestors?

If it's well received, it just may. I thought maybe the 6 would have done that a bit, but it really didn't attract enthusiasts (and didn't get the greatest reviews). But if the new 8 gets some good "press", it would probably push up demand for our 8s (at least a bit for a bit).

There will be no sleekness of the front or rear end, we know that for sure. With BMW's current kidney grilles engulfing the front end with a gaping abyss, taillights situated at the top of the trunk line and the horrid, massive, leaky headlight design bleeding into the kidneys, it will be no E31 replacement.

It will fit in with their current large saloons though...and imo that's not a good thing. The side profile could look good if they keep the bodylines low.

The front wheels are forward enough that if the engine is mid-front then the car could be 4 wheel drive with a gear box in the front of the motor. Or maybe they will use front electric motors.
