Running into some oil filter canister weirdness. My donor M60B40 that supplied it's heads & timing covers must have come from an E38/E39 where the canister didn't bolt to the engine & timing covers.

I've got an E38/E39 and a E34 style canister, but the feed & return hoses I've got are for the E38/E39 and the timing cover is E38/E39. Meaning the E34 canister won't fit the hoses nor with the E34 canister bolt to the timing cover. I'd really like to have the oil canister on the engine as a total contained unit without the canister floating way out in no mans land.

I can order a set of used & rusty E34 oil hoses for $50 and another timing cover for $70 or instead I opt'd to run an old hot rod remote mount dual sping-on filter set up for $40 for the kit.

Flipped the supercharger pulley around. That sucker was not coming off, managed to break a few parts of the ZZP pulley puller but after several hours of tweaking on it I got the pulley off, flipped and pressed back on.

Started cutting the rear of the housing off for mounting on the adapter. Ran out of cut off wheels, ordered bigger more robust wheels and will go back at it next weekend.

That looks like a lot to cut off by hand, very interesting

Mounted remote dual oil filters, there are a couple of bosses on the block that worked out great to mount the remote filters. Still need to replace hoses to fit the BMW inlet/outlet pipes. Also waiting for one more filter to arrive.

Also found a drain plug in my misc drawer in the toolbox that worked to plug off the oil return line.

One of the things that seems to get noticed the most on my previous M60 are the little dress up spikes I've used as valve cover hold downs. It's the stupid things, but people (including myself) seem to like it. So I wanted to transfer the dress up spikes over to this engine but make it so the valve cover would still seal like normal, unlike my previous version.

Replaced the studs in the cam journal caps with long versions:

Drilled out the heads of the hold down nuts and ran a tap through each one to clean up threads. The front ones are drilled & tapped but have a small stud to bolt spike down to bolt head as to not interfere with the unique 7mm to 6mm adapter stud BMW has in the timing cover.

I figure I can put in a small o-ring on the stud between spike & nut to prevent any seeping due to oil wicking up the threads.

...after I finished this I found online that BMW already has a version of valve cover hardware that has a small 6mm stud coming out of the top of the head, oh well. This way was cheaper.

Finished cutting off the rear of the supercharger, bolt's down nice.

With the S/C mounted we can finally see proper belt alignment with the flipped pulley

With the S/C mounted I can finally see belt alignment with the flipped pulley.

Before bolting down those valve covers I wanted to dial in cam timings again, this time for a more boost friendly 110° ICL and a 112° LSA, this time I used .050" valve lift.

This time I came up with:

    206° Intake / 200° Exhaust @ .050" (Which is .010" more valve lift then the 1mm specs)

    IVO: 7° ATDC
    IVC: 33° ABDC
    EVO: 35° BBDC
    EVC: 15° BTDC

    Making a 110° ICL & 112.5° LSA

Not sure why I used .050" valve lift other then I can plug the info into my dyno sim software and it's a value I've used in the past.

Speaking of which, estimated power output with updated cam timings:

The S/C is 8 rib, the BMW pulleys are 7 rib. I ordered an 7 rib, I don't think an 8 would squeeze in the bmw pulleys

7 should be ok with moderate <9psi boost. Yes it will be expensive to make them all 8rib

    Drive belt on:

    Started focusing on exhaust manifolds:

I need to source or make a set of 4 hole exhaust flanges that look like this:

In order to bolt down the flanges that do this:

The project took an unexpected turn:

..I was considering the idea of adding nitrous to aid in air temp cooling, this was the article that twisted my arm:

    https://axleaddict.com/cars/The-Awes...trous-Together

"...Instead of passively radiating heat away from the intake air, you're shooting cryogenic mist into it, instantly dropping the temperature by 100 degrees or more...."

I will still be using the air-water intercoolers, but the nitrous for 1/4 mile drags and occasional blasts. I'm aiming for a 100-150hp shot. Decided to use a wet kit & fogger as my standalone EFI doesn't have advanced nitrous controls. I wouldn't be able to add fuel % when nitrous is on, I can however use a section of my EFI tables that will turn on the nitrous for me above a certain TPS & RPM. I'm thinking of grounding the IAT sensor when the nitrous solenoid is on so EFI thinks it's max hot and removes a pre-programmed amount of timing....that's a bit of a hack and I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

I am thinking of putting the nozzle dead center front of the supercharger outlet duct and modifying the nozzle from 90° spray to straight spray:

I'm also considering routing the nitrous purge line to a spray bar in front of the intercooler, not to run at the same time but either/or.

Speeduino has a bounty program for developers, a couple nights ago I put a bounty on adding nitrous controls to Speeduino. The systems creator and another tuner responded and wrote the codes for nitrous controls last night. It's not finished yet but will be soon. Can you imagine asking Holley, FAST or Fitech to add features you (and others) could use but aren't currently available... it wouldn't happen, or would be released years down the road as a separate updated unit you'd need to purchase.

    Version 1:

    Version 2 from the creator:

...we already talked about it and he's going to add AFR limits to disable nitrous above and below a programmable AFR.

Despite now that Speeduino is able to increase injector pulsewidth while nitrous is active I'm still going to set mine up as a wet shot simply because I don't know the flow rate of the jaguar injectors I figure I can fine tune nitrous AFR with the injector adder.

Nice the standalone software can respond so quick. With adding the nitrous with also the PD supercharger are you doing anything to strengthen the engine internally? If not u may want to consider feeding in the nitrous progressively over an rpm band rather than a big hit at 3000rpm. It would soften the shock on the engine internals and probably help with gaining traction for this beast. I know that the m60 is inhernatly strong but it’s asking a lot of it. I’m no expert on nitrous so maybe others can chime in or perhaps ask in the FI section

Totally agree. Despite the IAT temp cooling it will be increased cylinder pressures.

Do ya know how your gonna do your ccv to catch can yet ? at the moment i'm running a road pipe to the rear of the car but a working catch can would be preferable.

Any update on this project? Will the s65 exhaust manifolds fit an e34 chasis? Or do the headers interfere with anything in the engine bay.
