I plan on picking up my '91 E31 tomorrow with trailer and winch. Batteries are not in the car. Will I be able to shift it into neutral to winch it out of storage unit and onto the trailer? I do have batteries in my garage that I have tried to maintain with a charger in case I need to take them with me. Thanks,
Pretty sure it will, seems I've done exactly that quite a few times. Probably not a bad idea to take the batteries with you though... and definitely take the key

Car did shift into neutral without batteries.
Tow hook I bought did fit correctly. But I cannot get the grill cover off the front to attach tow hook. I think tow attachment point is under the lower left grill cover? I need to turn the car around on trailer so I can get the car parked into my driveway heading out.

Found front tow point and got it back on trailer.
Got the car loaded, then unloaded again to turn it around so I could back it into my garage. I have never driven the car. It was only running on one bank when I bought it so I hauled it away on my trailer and put it in storage until I could find time to work on it. I have been pretty busy working/running my formula continental but I have time now to work on the bimmer. And there was a large box of parts sitting at front door when I got home!

That is how I got for cheap 10 years ago a nice E32 750iL Highline from a dentist. Only one bank running and twisted seat back, a repair shop offered him a repair for more than $10K including a cpl. new seat.
The twisted seat I repaired for free but shortening the outer sheath of the bowden cable, and then I found one distributor cap had the center pin missing, replaced the cap and it was running on all 12 cylinders again.

I bought mine from a college kid because he was moving away. His father owned the car and it was one of several high-end sports cars he owned. The father did not want the car back and told his son to sell it. He had started working on the car but he was too busy with school to figure out the problems. He was asking 5k but never had any offers so he dumped it because he had no where to store it. Luckily, I saw his add and bought it within a day or two before he was about to call a salvage company.
Its been resprayed, has a few small door dings, and interior needs straightening up because he tore it apart to replace sunroof gasket, and work on driver's door latch, but he never put it back together. I am not sure what is wrong with the door latch but I will get into that soon.
I have never driven the car, lol, but I hope I can get it to run reliably and I would like to 'track' the car eventually.
