I have a 1979 733i which had the driver side front end replaced due to a minor accident. The front driver side tire rubs on the strut assembly when steering to the right.Upon inspection there is maybe 1/4" of clearance at the tire and strut assembly. How can this be adjusted (spacer, shim, or......) Since the spindle is attached to the strut assembly it seems like there is no way to adjust it.The passenger front tire has plenty of clearance.I took pictures but I do not know how to post. This is my first time to the forum.I dont want to go back to the mechanic who replaced the front end as he is 250 miles away. How do you adjust the space between the tire and strut assembly? The front end alignment is good but the tire spacing is not.Is it poosible there is aspacer missing or that they forgot to put in when they reassembled the front end? Or a spacer missing at the spindle? Is there any where I can see an exploded view diagram of the spindle/strut assembly? Thanks!!!
I'm guessing the forgot to replace the spacer, especially if there is more clearance on the passenger side. Sounds like your knowledge about these cars is limited, easiest way to see is to pull both wheels and compare. Difference will be obvious, if you do need a spacer, make sure you get the exact same one, take it to a tire shop and ask for help.
Thanks I will get my car on a lift Saturday and check
www.realoem.com put in last 7 of your vin and you get an explosion of parts.
