Hey guys. Not a Z3 but a similar module in my e46 1999 323i. I had the airbags unplugged when doing door panels and got everything buttoned back up. Now, I am getting a one fault from the SRS system "internal control unit fault" Don't remember the number. But, that is the only error I am getting. Sounds like my SRS module may have gotten one of the permanent faults?

Oh, one other thing. While I was driving the car I was checking codes and I noticed that it did not even find the SRS module during one scan...found that odd. Definitely made me think the module is on the fritz.

I would question why it didn't trigger side airbag faults. Due to the abundant availability of E46 modules and that your module only has the one single error, I would consider finding a spare used one. It may be recoverable, but if you can find a good used one that you can code in, it may be a slightly better option. For Z3, this isn't an easy option. There just aren't too many around.

Thanks Abel. I found the same PN on ebay for $30. But, the SRS module needs to be programmed then? I have NCS expert but no idea how to use it. lol

Thank you for this information. I am using this information at an attempt to revive my 6900727 airbag module How are you reading and clearing the errors using tool32 on the bench? I'd like to make sure I can clear all errors before reinstalling the module in my car.

Send me a PM with your email for contact. I would want to make sure your module isn't failing internally, so a listing of the codes and how many times they have happened helps. If there is a problem with the module itself, or the original offending issue persists, the error will come back.

Hey Abel, I don't see the option to PM you (may be due to me being new to forum). I need help with 2000 Z3M airbag module showing 3 errors: MRS: (16) Sensor for side airbag left, (F0) Internal control unit fault, (11) Power Supply. Please try to send me PM with info to ship the module to you. Thanks.

I can't PM you either, you're too new here.
If you want, post your email address here, and I can tell you when to edit and delete the email address.

Okay, need a little more help to clear some gremlins.

I was able to re-install the SRS module after Abel reset it. I got a code for the driver side under seat side airbag module and replaced it. Cleared the code automatically and no light = yay!

Now I am getting an intermittent light that comes and goes as I drive. The B800 tool throws codes 15, 16, & 17 from table 40. These seem unlikely to be related to the recent replacement of the side module. Any experience with these?

    (15) Seat belt buckle switch, passenger
    (16) Satellite, left sensor (for side airbag), comms fault or open circuit
    (17) Satellite, right sensor (for side airbag), comms fault or open circuit

My next step is to try to clear the codes in case they are residual from previous attempts to find the error.

The seat belt buckle switch is what sometimes causes an intermittent light, but more of a 5 second light at startup.

You can attempt clearing the errors, but the left and right sensor errors are concerning. It needs further diagnosis with better tools.

I still repair these here and there as I can, even for E39. But keep in mind that the original issue MUST be fixed first. It's often something else in the system that triggers the internal fault.

Bought a 2nd unit used so have one Id like to send to you… to fix. I’m under the impression I should be able to bolt this one I have coming in and then scan it to see what codes are in it. Just hoping not to see the F0. It’s the same 8896 module so shouldn’t need no programming unless it has crash data. I’ll repost in a few days. Can you PM with infor on sending you one to fix.
There are no other codes other than F0

It will need programming/coding with NCS Expert. It will carry the VIN from the donor car. The part number isn't what determines the programming inside.

I have a Z3 module that is making errors for both "sensor for side air bag" 16 022 and 07 023. We replaced the sensor (they were under water and corroded badly) and still have same faults. We attempted to code the module - but there is an error for module not for vehicle it is installed in, the VIN in module does not match the car according to Autologic. They have recommended I replace the module with one ending in 896 (mine ends in 192) but I am concerned if I buy a used module, it will have a VIN in it too and I will not be able to use it. If i buy a used module, can you virginize it, or can you do something with mine?

    Thank You

As long as you don't have F0 (internal error): It needs to be coded with the BMW tools, such as NCS Expert. That will update the VIN automatically.

I included instructions for all of that here https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...xperimentation in post 1

    Hi,
I have been driving a 2000 528 with the F0 internal ecu error for years. Recently a friend of mine bought also a 2000 528 exhibiting the exact same problem. Error F0 with the control module rejecting the clear command from INPA.

I have decided to fix the airbags on both cars and would need help with the removal of that fault code.

Can I contact you somehow Abel? I cannot message you directly.

    Thanks
