I follow your guide to soldered the wires to my MRSZ3 65776900727.
However, carprog was not able to read the eeprom.
I checked the soldering and they are good.
Did I miss something?

hey Abel i have a couple of modules that need to be reset how can i get a hold of you to get them done?
thanks james
Is it that common in NZ? It's funny because a few months ago I did a few for a group of New Zealanders. It's up to you if you want to deal with the long shipping, but send me a private message on the forums and I'll try to help.
For the E39 modules, it's been hit or miss. Sometimes the internal error came back after a while.

What tool do you use to read and write the eeprom? I am trying to reset the internal fault code on MRSZ2/12

Hi Abel. I think I need to have the control unit reprogrammed. Can you help out and what would next step be? Regards.

Yes, It is (Z3M). I can't PM you as I don't have many posts to allow me the PM capability yet. Is there another way?
Do you still repair these airbag modules? I recently bought an e39 with a F0 failure and was hoping I could pay you to repair it rather than spend an excess amount of money on a new module. Also is there an easier, more direct way I can reach you if you’re able to repair it?

I cannot PM you as you are too new here.
I generally don't recommend posting your email address publicly, but it seems it's the only way.
For e39, I highly suggest looking at all the errors to determine if it was an external auxiliary item causing the internal error, and the timing of the error (such as after a battery disconnect/reconnect etc). The problem that caused the F0 error must be fixed, or else the error will come back after I do a clearing.
For e39, it's pretty nice as there are many modules available used for a fraction of the cost of a new one.

I am glad I found this thread. I could not clear the code with one of those B800 scanners and misinterpreted the F0 code as 0F. I got an INPA read and it seems like I have the dreaded 240 code on a 2000 BMW Z3 M. Is it easier to buy a used EPROM and send it for reprograming or to pull the existing unit and send it in. I am in Austin BTW. Do you sell the modules outright? Core charge etc.
I have no more spare modules and they're really hard to find.
Find out if there are other errors in your module, and how many of each. This can give you a hint if any accessory item is triggering the internal fault. If the problem that caused it still persists, the internal error can come back.
Post it here, or send a pm with your email, or something. I still do these when time allows.

PM'd you. Thanks!
So, I just purchased the car, and the light came on shortly after.
Given that it is not likely that the seller cleared the 240 code, it may have been my bad luck or something I did triggered the code. I did remove the seats to clean them and turned the key when I was doing so, but the code memory shows two consistent faults.
It seems I cannot post the image I took of the faults. Most were a single time, I assumed due to me turning the key with seats removed.
(21) Ignition Circuit ZK1 - Driver belt Tensioner = 112 error frequency
(2) Belt Lock Passenger = 256 error frequency

I saw the pic. (google drive doesn't work well with forums)
There it is, 256 error frequency. In 8-bit data, 255 is the largest number that can be counted to. Fix the connectors on both seats: spray, clean, and reconnect them. And then your car would be a good candidate for clearing.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, Abel, but quick question for you and the group.
Have you ever seen a control module go bad (on the earlier 2.5 or later 3.5 modules for Z3's) without the internal F0 error present?
I have a thread running on this forum where I described what is happening, but in short - the only error I have been getting is a side impact sensor error, but I have tried 4 modules in it now (including a brand new $300 one!) and the error (passenger side 84: side impact sensor) persists. When you switch the impact sensors the error switches sides (to driver side 81) which SCREAMS the sensor itself but again I have tried a bunch of these!
I just wanted to see if it could possibly be the central module even though no error is given?!
Thanks, and any advice would be welcome!!!
For it to localize exactly which side it's on suggests the module is not bad at all. I would check that you are using the correct generation of side impact sensors (they were different across production dates) and that their connectors correct.

I cleaned the connections, but wondered if the cleaning may need to happen at the other end. Am I correct in assuming that Belt Lock refers to where the buckle snaps in? What about the Belt tensioner? Does that need to be cleaned elsewhere? Both errors say they are not current, but not sure if the 240 code locks the current state. I was wanting to get the codes cleared to see if any codes come up afterwards thereby showing the issue and isolating it. The fear of course is that it throws the 240 code again and locks it. Does that happen instantly or is it more likely that it locks if the issue is ignored?

It's worth inspecting all the connectors, even the ones closer to the accessory. For example, the tensioners do have another connector nearer to the tensioner itself that can easily have coffee or sodas spilled onto it.
If they say not current, I believe it.
The internal error does not allow a complete code clear, so all others will remain in there.
If the original issue is ignored, it will lock up again, yes.

Yeah I considered that they were mismatched, but these all end in “910 678” for the part number, are two prong, and have the MRSA4 label on them. I am out of good ideas I am now checking instrument cluster, grounds, even the battery safety terminal. It’s gonna be a good one something I have never seen!
Does anyone have a control module from a Z3 laying around, that they would be willing to loan or sell? It’s a v3.5 part number 6910677 with the brown plastic plug?
Thanks if anyone has any advice I am all ears!
Thanks Abel. If I have understood everything correctly. I can send my module to have the software reset which will remove all error codes including #240.
What do you charge for the reset?

This is a great read through - similar issue for me, running into a bunch of shadow/non-active errors. If it's possible to clear it pulling from the car, I feel like I outta at least try it.
I'm currently running into these errors
