Hi forum,
Swap 745i gasoline N62B44 engine to similar engine due some technical issues. Old engine is driven until removed from car (some knocking sound, blue smoke etc.). New engine is overhauled as per tackling known critical failures (valve stem seals, generator oil seal, oil & coolant leaking).
Now engine is cranks as normal but will not start. It is not giving any indication about even trying to run. Spark plugs are wet by gasoline after starting. Testing external coil/spark plug in random cylinder is giving weak spark. Measured grounding and +12 V from all coil connectors are okay. Signal wires are not measured yet.
Tested with new crankshaft sensor without any change. INPA show 200-250 rpm during crank. Both ignition keys are having similar operation with different setting on seat, steering wheel etc. i.e. some system recognize both these keys.
INPA is not giving any error code for issue. In DME screen "digital value 1" is "condition EWS OK" (black dot) before starting. During start it changes to "condition EWS OFF" (white dot) same time as "status idle speed" goes "ON" state. Does anyone have information how this EWS condition should work i.e. do I have some problem with EWS not allowing start? Should "condition EWS ON" be black dot during starting?
Any hints what to look for as per corrective actions?
Original ECU, groundings (coils grounding, engine grounding) are checked and doubled (with extra cables/wires) as testing purposes, all spark plugs were removed and dried while engine cranked for couple starting cycles, waiting for couple days without spark plugs (for drying), extra heavy battery with heavy cabling straight to engine compartment contacts - any nothing works. There is no indications of misfiring not in exhaust or manifold. Generally I would expect at least some indication on combusted gasoline, like it should fire either side (incoming or outgoing) side of cylinder IF mixture is fired.
Some local guys were suggesting problems with valvetronic, but should this engine start even without valvetronic (eccentric shaft position indicator, cam position indicators or VANOS indicators) signals as in safe mode. At least this I read earlier searching solutions.
