I just received my order of all the stuff to change the transmission fluid in my 740i and I wanted to check on something before I drain my trans and cant fill it. Does a normal just tube work to fill the trans, I know that some VWs use a screw in fill tool and I was hoping ours was easier than that. Thanks.
I use a Garden Pressure Pump Sprayer, works fine and costs less than $10 for a 5 liter container, just cut off the spray nozzle and attach instead on the tube a silicone hose which you can insert into the fill tube from bottom. Actually I have 2 of them, here the smaller 1 liter version where you can see the added hose http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0osDSOe6Wd...0/IMG_2814.jpg

That's what I was hoping to see, I had one of those screw in pumps like one that you would see on a shampoo bottle. I shall also see how the Redline fluid does in these transmissions, I also am completely sure its just bad fluid, the shift space between 1-2 is gone when hot and shifts like a dream.
Before I forget how are the pan gaskets on these cars? I heard there is some other cars where the gasket doesn't seal no matter what and you have to use gasket maker.
No problem, just clean the contact surfaces from old gasket material. There are 2 different versions, kind of paper and rubber, I usually use the rubber version, here you see both versions, This gasket is one time use only and cannot be reused. https://www.fcpeuro.com/BMW-parts/74...87&m=20&page=1

I usually prefer rubber but the one that was sent to me is the OEM paper one so ill just have to see how this goes.
Also works without problem. I also have some Mann Hummel filter kits here for 5HP30, H 2522/1 x kit = BMW 24341421200, 24341422419 , that comes with a 'paper' gasket, works well, Mann-Hummel is a good brand https://catalog.mann-filter.com/EU/e...7AAE17F33D64FE

Yes, you can use Redline no issue.

I used Redline D6 atf along with the green paper gasket on my E34. No problems at all.
Nice and leak free since I replaced the shift shaft seals as well!
Redline is in and it is slowly starting to make its way through. The 5hp30 is a PITA to fill so much so that I managed to bang my arm against the exhaust and was covered with old and new ATF.
I've been told to check that you can open the filler before you decide to open the drain plug.
