E46 2001 320d remote key programme

I bought a new car from BMW. I followed the procedure to synchronise putting the key in the ignition turning once taking it out press down the unlock button pressing the BMW button three times. It didn't work. Took it to Bmw garage, they tried, to no avail. Asked me to come back for a senior tech to check which I did, no joy either. They say I have to leave the car there to investigate. Anyone help pls???
