Is a 100m miles to much on a 2006 z4 how long do these engines last
Depends on how they are used. One that has been "rode hard and put up wet" may need a rebuild at 75,000 miles where one that has never been abused may go for 200,000 miles or more before a rebuild.
As long as you don't overheat the engine and change the oil every 5k, they will last quite a long time.
"Road Hard and Put up wet' really has nothing to do with it. As it was said, it's all about the maintenance. I have seen M54's (and you can extrapolate this to other engine series) that had over 150k with 50K of track miles on them and the cross hatch is still on the cylinder walls. With just your average street use and average maintenance most BMW engines last 150K to 200K.
Well, my kids e30's, both being 318's so they had the M42 4cyl engines. The 1991 318is had 464k miles on it when my youngest decided to sell it and I replaced the clutch and had head rebuilt after a head gasket leak. Never overheated, but I figured it was time anyways. Lots of general maintenance and age related parts replaced. Every hose replaced. It was still running smooth as new when it rolled out of our driveway. My older sons 1991 318i is still running strong with 184k and he drives it daily year round. I change the oil every 6months as he's a full time student at UC and it's usually around 5-6k miles a year and on our 6th year with it. When I pulled the head covers on both of these, the top end components were in amazing shape. Even the primary drive gears showed very little wear on teeth!? So.. a well maintained engine driven like a baby or they we're stolen will last a long time. It may or may not be cheap in miscellaneous parts but the blocks themselves seem very well designed. The only worry I have with these cars are the automatic transmissions. Seems like bmw outsourced this major component to companies that aren't as well staffed with engineers. But again, proper maintenance is key.

I have 175K on my 2005 Z4 3.0. This is my only car, bought it new, live in Massachusetts, drive it every day, every season. Garage at home and at work. About 30 miles to work. Still same clutch. Basically I just change oil every 15/20K plus brakes and tires every now and then. Stopped regular maintenance when the warranty run out at 60K. I also never use high octane gas, the cheaper the better . Race it to about 100 mph at least once per week. All is fine. The first major issue just happened, had to replace roof motor. That's about it.
100m as in 100 million may be a bit too much
