Brown is always a ground..
So I got it back together, still not running. It'll start for a few seconds then die. Better than it was before. Figured I'd change the fuel filter and drain the tank. Lots of gunk came out with the fuel, guess that's a good sign?
I may be doing this wrong but to drain the fuel tanks, I removed the filter, jumped the pump relay and let it drain into a bucket from the banjo bolt that would normally go into the filter.
I noticed when doing so, the fuel would come out steady, stop for a few seconds then keep coming out and repeat this cycle. The fuel pump was always being pressured. Could this mean the engine isn't getting constant pressure because of the accumulator? Or is it simply because no filter causing giant air bubbles (this wouldn't make sense to me since I'm going right into a bucket)
Any ideas? Thanks guys
I would take a closer look at that gunk. When I bought my e21 I had so much gunk/rust build up in the tanks that no fuel was flowing at all. Ended up trashing the tanks. You could pop off the fuel sender unit and shine a light into the tanks to inspect the insides. That gunk could accumulate in your fuel system components once it is put back together. I ended up buying a siphon pump from harbor freight to drain my tanks
