Any recent recommendations/experiences with shops in the south OC area? It's becoming harder to find mechanics that will even touch my car, let alone do ugly jobs like valve adjustments and steering line replacements.

This is outside of your radius but definitely worth the drive if you're looking for a long-term shop. Look up Avus Autosport in Glendale - maybe the best BMW shop in So Cal with the most honest and knowledgeable mechanics...no affiliation with the shop, just know and heard many great reviews. Best of luck!

Just an idea.
Here's a list, maybe you could call and find out if they'll work on oldies but goodies
and then read all the reviews on those shops. Maybe if there're really good, they'll let
you talk to some of the customers to get their opinions.

It really sucks when it comes down to this. We have the same problem here in NY.
A shop that does great work won't look @ mine because all the older techs with our vintage cars
have long gone and the new so called techs weren't even born to know anything but the new stuff.
Good luck.
Bullet Performance in Costa Mesa is likely still good. I've not been there for some time, but have referred others who were very pleased.
