I like the way you are following closely and quickly answering questions as they pop up. That approach should serve you well for a respectable final hammer price. I'll be watching and cheering for you. Good luck!

Agree a filter would be useful, but for the life of me I don't see any way for BaT to implement it since they have no way of gauging intent. I often share my knowledge on BaT on cars I am not considering a bid. Sometimes it's a model I've owned in the past, sometimes a current model in my garage. Knowledgable enthusiasts are the beauty of BaT.
Although I've yet to place a bid, that does not make me any less serious a buyer. I prepare my bid at the max I am willing to pay and wait until the bidding settles down in the last 2 minutes. Thus far the cars I've been interested in have gone for more than my max, hence no bids.
I always look at the reputation of the commenter before deciding if their comment is worth considering first anyway. I don't think any other knowledgable bidder is any different.

Part of the charm of BaT is in fact the peanut gallery. The real bidders know what they looking for and will PM the seller or ask specific questions. Sometimes very insightful comments will be made. The 8 series get particular attention as the BaT regulars have a love/hate relationship with them.
The worst part about BaT when it comes to 8 series is this crazy phenomenon where it seems a particular group of non-E31 enthusiasts just *has* to chime in about how unreliable and how expensive maintenance is on any 840/850. The odd thing is, that it's usually a different group/person every time!
Ultimately, the same general conversations ensue, and more often than not, sours the seller's auction to some degree. It's the nature of BaT, and I wouldn't change a thing, but reading comments takes a good amount of tongue biting, and/or willingness to educate the masses (repeatedly).
Either way, good luck to Rich in finding the right buyer!

Good luck with the sale -- hope you get a satisfactory price and direct the buyer here. As luck would have it, I found my project-status E31 there (but not as an auction listing).
As a random comment, and at the risk of sounding like a crotchety old man, I'll add that I miss BAT's pre-auction days -- when you could go there and actually find interesting cars and "projects" to get your mind thinking about possibilities. You know, stuff that actually required you to have a trailer! I agree that the user comments are generally useful; that's all that keeps BAT from being eBay Motors (or any other online auction) at this point.
Cheers, John
So what did you think of the BaT experience, Rich? Was it worth the time and effort?

Too low IMO
^I agree. That was way too low for a 6-spd. Personally, I wouldn't let mine go for less than $30K, although I probably have nearly twice that amount into it.
For a six-speed, I think it went a little low as well. But with the bit of rust, and cracking leather, it probably wasn't that far off. Someone got a decent buy.
