Hello! I've recently joined so I could get some advice on what I should do. This is my very first european car i've ever bought and it's been extremely fun to drive! I bought it last may when I turned in my leased prius C. Today this morning after driving for 5 minutes my check engine light came on and went home immediately to scan for a code. The code is P052b. After driving for another 5 minutes to see if there is something wrong with the engine, it went away. Felt no lose in power and acceleration. Should I get this checked out? Or is it just some fluke in the system?
I've never heard flukes in the BMW computer systems.. maybe Abel and the rest can correct me if I'm wrong. But what the techs and pro's will tell you is that you need to take the car to a dealer or a BMW specialist who has the correct diagnostic programs to read the codes in WORDS as P codes are US government codes which are pretty misleading especially on BMW's and I'm sure the car set that code for a reason. I think a proper diagnostic is the best way to start and attack your problem otherwise you would be shooting in the dark. I'm not a tech or a pro btw

You will likely need to replace, or at least clean, the VANOS solenoids (variable valve timing). A correct inspection by a qualified technician is necessary, as it could be caused by a few issues, some important.

There will be a great number of excellent BMW specialist shops in your area. You need to begin a relationship with one of them.
You've bought a great car, and it will require periodic attention by technicians with the experience and diagnostic equipment particular to the marque. They won't be using P-codes to diagnose your car.
