Hello,
I got myself an old 750 for spending some quality time in the garage with
Since this is not my first BMW I know that getting inpa up and running with car is a good start. Since the car is from before -96 I got my hand on a ADS interface (Tiny ADS) and set up inpa/ediabas for ADS.
I can connect to most modules in the car but have no success with the DMEs in inpa. Trying with the DMEs just gives me error messages in inpa like:
SYS-0002: ECU OBJECT FILE NOT FOUND
Since I first thought that I might have some problem with the wiring in the car I hooked up a small test bench on my desk for one DME to see if that would improve things for me. It did not, inpa stills says SYS-0002.....
At this state I was recommended to try Testo and after that also Toolset32. The auto detect ecu function in Testo fails but I can select "DME 5.2 for M73 right with EWS" manually and get some information for the DME. With toolset32 I can load a .prg file of my choice and get a lot of information that looks correct for coming from av DME on the desk.
A problem here is that the .prg file I have had some success with state that it is for a car with EWS which my car don't have. But I still get data..Code:Satz : 1 ISN_LESEN_WERT = 119 Satz : 1 PROD_NR_LESEN_WERT = 11a Satz : 1 JOB_STATUS = OKAY ID_BMW_NR = 1740208 ID_DATUM = 472 ID_DAT_KW = 472 ID_SW_NR = 001 ID_HW_ZULIEFERER = 0261203473 ID_SW_ZULIEFERER = 1267358548 ID_AIF_VORHANDEN = 1 00 01 .. ID_MOTOR = M73_521 ID_LAMBDA_STEREO = 0 00 00 .. ID_EML = 2 00 02 .. ID_LU_MESSUNG = 12 00 0C .. ID_OBD2 = 1 00 01 .. ID_SG_HERSTELLER = 0 00 00 .. ID_EWS_SS = 2 00 02 .. Satz : 1 JOB_STATUS = OKAY AIF_ADRESSE = 56904 00 00 DE 48 ..H AIF_FG_NR = WBAGK21010DH36425 AIF_DATUM = 22.12.94 AIF_AENDERUNGS_INDEX = AA AIF_SW_NR = 1427017 00 15 C6 49 ..I AIF_BEHOERDEN_NR = 1740654 00 1A 8F 6E ..n AIF_ZB_NR = 1427016 00 15 C6 48 ..H
Can I in some way force inpa to use a specific .prg file to see if I get it to work here also?
Does anyone have .prg files that could be the perfect match for my car? I guess I also need some .ipo files also for getting it running?
Other suggestions for getting forward with my task of getting inpa to talk with the DMEs?

Magnus, your best option for this car is to obtain a copy of DIS v44 as INPA will only work with post-EWS models (no pre-EWS data files are available). 7 series were some of the last cars to be fitted with externally accessible diagnostics, so you may even have some difficulty accessing both DME's simultaneously with DIS. The ignition systems are however fairly basic, and most ignition faults I have encountered on these cars have usually been easily traced back to simple components like burned coil towers and distributor faults.
Thanks for the reply, do I need DIS v44 specifically or will it work with a later version like 57? It seems easier to find.
The ignition system was in a rather poor state from the start, can't see any problems with the coils and wires but distributors and plugs looked bad. They are now replaced but the idle is still not perfect and I think it runs a bit rich during warm up, hence I would like to get some data from the DMEs to see if I can see any explanations before I dig deeper into stuff like leaking intake gaskets...

You are dealing with a fairly old car - DIS v57 is undoubtedly more comprehensive, but was released in 2007 - over 20 years after your car was built, so I am not sure that it will go back far enough. v44 was released at the end of 2004 or in a pinch, you could try v39. PM me if you have difficulty getting copies of v39 or v44.
Does that model year have the OBD2 port next to the cup holder? If so make sure the cover cap is on or you will not have a full loop in the OBD circuit.

Time to start working again to solve this...
No, my -95 (euro) does not have any OBD2 port, its only the big round one under the hood.
I have been testing with files named DM5212L0, DM5212R0, DM5212L2, DM5212R2...etc, ie. all files named something *****L* or *****R*. I get some data with all files but the connection is unstable and some data appers to be impossible to read.
If I should start working on getting DIS v39 or v44 into my old laptop, will that solve the problem with ediabas not having the correct files? I assume DIS will still have to work with ediabas since I don't have the special addapter for DIS.
