Simple shape, but the metal clips would be tricky. I'll have to check if my car has that, actually...

We are getting a new printer soon that has the better ABS material capability so I will give it another go. Another issue that many people are not aware of is the surface texture of typical 3D printed parts are not the same as molded plastic parts - I'm by no means an expert but I can't see how you could make a decent smooth part without a lot of post - production finishing.
ABS would definitely be the way to go, but even so I'm not sure it would hold up to engine bay temps. Smoothing out a 3D printed part is fairly easy, the method I'm familiar with is dunking the part in acetone. Then, you can just use some black trim paint. Alternatively you could sand it, but either way I imagine painting will be a final step here to get it close to other black plastic pieces.

Thanks for the tip on ABS, I will try it when I get the new printers.

The clips just slide into slots in the round mounting cups, really not that big of a deal. The slots can actually be cut in after the part is printed. Clips are just wire circlips. The top of this cover is not smooth either, it has a grainy surface - also not a big deal (can be sanded smooth and painted if it really bothers you).

I have that cover on my car, if there's interest I could draw up a model to print.

I would venture to say there is plenty of interest. Put me on the list.

Has anyone thought about printing duplicates of the intake manifold gaskets?

I'll give it a shot. But based on the comments here, I will break the thing taking it off!

I can get the center piece trim grid for us to 3D fabricate! (Part #51111970220)

Good news folks!!! I can get my hands on the part (#51111970220) We have a small group of classic BMW owners who show up together at local car shows here in the northern Atlanta suburbs. I saw him this past weekend at Caffeine & Octane and noticed it on his 840 (no front license tags required in Georgia). He said he'd be happy to loan it out so I can get it scanned and printed. (I need it for my 840.) I am starting to research local scanning and printing shops, but need to know how many folks want this part. Once I have a "count", I can get a price for us...would just need everyone to commit and remit before I put the order in. I'm not looking to make any profit...just want to ensure I don't get left holding the bag if people commit to the order but then don't follow through. I know doing one would make no financial sense...but if we can get a list of enough folks that want it, it could certainly be economically feasible. Or...if someone has a friend that actually has a scanner/printer...even better! Let me know gentlemen. Thanks!

I will definitely take one. And that’s sweet I’m from Woodstock, up above Kennesaw near canton. I’d totally be down to go to some of the shows with y’all.

The part number is for the front bumper.

No, that part number is for the NLA trim strip that goes in the front bumper. See here: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...e/51111970220/
